Because liquids behave the exact same as solids
Understandable. Maybe look into washable plastic / metal straws? Just never be drinking and walking at the same time if you’re prone to be clumsy

There’s silicone ones too, probably safer than plastic if you’re worried about piercing your throat.
I also find they tend to last longer and are easier to clean.
Buy reusable metal straws
