Update
ANN was able to confirm that the statements made the CEO about a season 2 being worked on are not an official announcement. Instead, it is just a reflection of ideas being kicked around, but not necessarily in production.
Original
No date or really any additional information provided. This was just dropped nonchalantly while doing an interview about the launch of their prequel game “Ninja Kamui: Shinobu Origins” on the Switch. Season 1 synopsis from AniList:
Higan is a Nukenin - a former ninja who escaped his clan and is hiding from his violent past in rural America with his family. One night, he is ambushed by a team of assassins from his former organization who exact a bloody retribution on Joe and his family for betraying their ancient code. Rising from his seeming “death,” Joe will re-emerge as his former self - Ninja Kamui - to avenge his family and friends. Kamui is a 21st century ninja, a shadowy anachronism who pits his ancient skills against high-tech weaponry with brutal finesse. He must face off against trained assassins, combat cyborgs, and rival ninjas to bring down the very clan that made him.
This is the weirdest announcement of a season 2 I have ever seen. It feels like a mistake, like some game producer let slip that season 2 is in production ahead of the PR folks. However, the person that made the statement was the company CEO, so I guess it was intentional?
I know, right? Was anyone watching this at the end for real?
I see the numbers on nyaa looked like it was popular even after the major subbing groups dropped for it the last 2 episodes.
But it lost over 50% of its viewers at the end, compared to its viewership height at episodes 2 and 3
