that test is great to identify animals whos predominant sense is sight.
What is so unique about the manta having passed the test?
Birds and mammals are widely considered to be intelligent but fish (or rays if you want to be pedantic) are not.
Cigarette butts have insecticidal properties. Many species of birds use material with special properties in their nests.
Adaptation to the man-made environment is a sign of intelligence.
Indeed
dont forget ants. source https://www.animalcognition.org/2015/04/15/list-of-animals-that-have-passed-the-mirror-test/
Ants? That’s amazing! I always though they had terrible vision just acute enough for orientation around landmarks and the sun. I never even knew they used vision to identify each other, let along themselves!
I thought they identified each other through smells
They do, but that paper shows they also use sight, with paint on their face causing them to get attacked and paint on their backs not causing agression in other ants.
Wait, the sting ray is self-aware? Mother fucker knew what he was doing when he killed Steve Irwin!
What’s wrong with rubber band cigarette butt nest anyhow? Keeps parasites away and offers a little warm, low effort so energy saved, seems plenty decent to me.
