Hezbollah said the “first phase” of its strikes against Israel “ended with complete success,”claiming that it launched 320 rockets and a barrage of drones toward Israel.

Hezbollah said it carried out strikes towards Israel in response to the killing of top military commander Fu’ad Shukr last month in the southern suburbs of Beirut, a populous neighborhood that is also the Iran-backed group’s stronghold.

      200,000 Palestinians would disagree.

Also before you repeat the braindead response (seriously, that script needs to be updated) of “but those numbers are from Hamas” that number is from the Lancet medical journal.

Edit: Changed ‘your’ to ‘that’ as I wasn’t trying to imply that it was Fizz@lemmy.nz’s scipt, but it read like I was.

Palestinians are not relevant they will agree with any anti isreal statement regardless of truth, Hamas is not relevant this article is about Israel and Hezbollah. I don’t know what you think you replied to.

The headline states isreal stikes first and people here are interpreting that as isreal crossing the line and starting a conflict. But this strike from Israel’s comes after constant fighting between the two parties since Oct 8. Where Hezbollah (which is supported by the Lebanon) fired first on Israelis(in Israeli occupied territory) knowing that it would kick off a conflict. Now we are almost a year down the line and we are seeing the compounding results of back and forth escalation.

Hezbollah is targeting military targets in the north of Israel to support Gaza against Israel’s war of extermination. Those military targets ate almost all entirely the sensors for the various Iron Dome systems. Israel is now mostly blind in the north after 10 months of slow attrition against the sensors.

Israel bombed southern Lebanese civilian targets in a supposed preemptive strike against Hezbollah’s response to Israel’s assassination of a general in a civilian area.

This matches with their behavior in Gaza. If they can’t react militarily against military targets, they target civilian populations for ‘deterrence’

Know what the definition of terrorism is?

Committing violence against civilians to accomplish political change.

Israel is a apartheid genocidal terrorist regime.

No. The strikes from Hezbollah came before Isreal began their war on Gaza and were specifically because they thought Arabs were doing an all our war to exterminate isreal. They were not at any point limited to military targets.

You are so disingenuous trying to paint this as Hezbollah striking military targets and Isreal striking civilans ignoring that Hezbollah operate from within civilian areas and have never ever stated or shown that they are only targeting military installations. If they were targeting only military targets they would be aiming majority of their attacks at the major isreali population centers.

You hold Isreal to such a high standard and then put a blindfold on when looking at the actions of arabs. You use the exact same line of reasoning as anti immigration racists in the US and UK and its gross.

And you’re fucking lying to try and defend an apartheid regime engaged actively in the process of genocide.

It’s disgusting to see people for whom ‘Never Again’ just meant ‘Never Again To Us’ as those same people use genocide and ethnic cleansing because they want living space.

I’m not afraid of being called anti-semitic in arguing against a genocidal regime. That ugly accusation against criticism of a nation state doesn’t work so well anymore.

200,000 dead shows your racist double standard.

Tell me, in your view, is genocide ever justifiable?

Hezbollah had explicitly stated multiple times that they would discontinue all hostilities if the IDF pulls out of Gaza. They’ve also been caught lying far fewer times than the IDF and the Israeli government has. They explicitly have more credibility to anyone actually paying attention to this conflict.

Edit: speaking of double standards: the IDF places military bases in civilian areas. I’m not actually criticizing them here though, as it’s a tiny country. But it we use the same standards that the IDF uses for identifying Hamas, then almost every Israeli citizen is a military target, as most civilians are in the reserves. Furthermore, measuring distance between military bases and civilian areas, they place military installations in civilian areas. Think about your own double standards.

Israel is explicitly not a credible source and here are the receipts for the provable times they’ve lied or provably manufactured evidence to justify their war crimes.

The reason you say all of these unrelated talking points is because you know you’re lying. You know if you point to a single event as the “first isreali strike” someone will point to the event that caused it.

I reference all those facts because they are the totality of the situation. They’re only unrelated to someone who wants an extremely simple answer to justify a claim for lebensraum.

I’ve found people that want you to believe in single simple explanations tend to be the ones lying.

I’m not so stupid to claim I know if you’re intentionally lying or not.

You also didn’t answer the question, coward. Have the courage of your beliefs and answer the question:

Do you believe genocide can ever be justified?

Oh so now its not simple. Now that you have to defend your statement the situation is not so simple. It is simple, what you said is intentionally misleading and historically wrong.
