Surprisingly, Rockstar have now added BattlEye anti-cheat to Grand Theft Auto V / GTA Online, and sadly it seems they have not enabled the support for Linux desktop and Steam Deck with Valve's Proton. ARTICLE UPDATED.

There is no avenue for a consumer to push back against publishers changing that

While if you bought it, it should be source included and you should be able to host your own servers/pick any patch to play on
We don’t have those consumer protections because software is a relatively new thing

Who cares about Rockstar’s opinion of “grounds?” Valve should simply do it anyway, and kick Rockstar off Steam entirely if it bitches about it.
That’s a good way to lose a lawsuit, end up giving all the money back plus interest and punitive amts, potential damages, etc. Smort.
Since GTA is a money printing machine. i doubt they’d ever do that
