Hey folks,

Thank you, everyone, for the feedback and the huge desire for a User Interface overhaul for GameVault on our Discord Poll.

In case you’re wondering what GameVault is, it’s like having your own video gaming platform for games on your server – think Plex, but for video games. If you are a self-hosting gamer, you most likely want to check this out.

With the brand new version 1.8, we’ve taken your feedback to heart and worked hard to give GameVault a fresh coat of paint!

I attached a before/after pic of how it used to look (left) versus now (right) so you can see the difference.

The UI underwent a complete makeover, and aside from looking pretty awesome, it is much better in terms of usability as well.

Just so you know: The first UI was kind of basic and only meant for us two developers, as we didn’t initially plan to release this project to the public.

Now that the traction is so huge and thousands of people are using this software, it would plainly feel wrong not to give it a facelift. So, every button and detail has been thoughtfully placed to make things way more user-friendly.

If you weren’t a fan of the old UI, now’s the time to swing by and check out the changes.

If you also want to steer the future development of GameVault, make sure to join our Discord Server.

You can check out GameVault here.

What do I use this for? Do I install it on my NAS or my gaming pc?

My best guess is this is a self hosted network storage for games and other computers run the games from there? Or do they download the game from there? Is it a way to store game saves? Does it have any use for emulators like yuzu?

Sorry for all the questions, I’m only asking because the software looks really interesting but I just can’t figure out its uses.

Seems like the intro clears some things: https://gamevau.lt/docs/intro It looks like you install the server component on your NAS/server etc and store your game files/binaries/installers there. Then you can download client applications and download from that location to install on your gaming PC or whatever

Thanks for clearing this up. I definitely have no use for this. I wish I did, but alas.

From a legal standpoint, the description (share DRM-free games with your friends) is also questionable as it’s currently worded. Copyright still applies to games that don’t use DRM. For OP, it might be a good idea to ask a lawyer to look this over and write a proper legal disclaimer, so they don’t end up being liable for copyright infringement.

Users must also be aware of and comply with copyright laws in their respective jurisdictions. We encourage responsible and legal use of GameVault. Unlawful use is strictly improper and unauthorized.

It only stores files, so there’s no need for wine support, as far as I understand.

Edit: looks like I was wrong, their client seems somewhat capable.

I’m looking into a game manager and the other project I’ve seen that looks this polished is RomM. What are the differences between this and RomM?

Edit: GameVault is a Windows/MS Store app… Guess that makes the choice easy for me

Nice, looking good! Are there ways to customize it to a users liking? You could get a pretty good theme store going I bet!

      No of course not 😂

I needed some games to show the UI properly so I created some empty zip-file mocks of popular games like “Assassin’s Creed 2.zip”.

      GameVault doesn’t care what’s inside.

Slightly weird choice to post that in official project site when FAQ mentions piracy is not endorsed :)

Last time I checked renaming an empty text file to “Assassin’s Creed 2.zip” was legal in my jurisdiction but I now must fear a C&D Letter from Ubisoft it seems lmao.

I would call it more like false advertising. Showing a screen that in theory is not possible unless you pirate or just make mockups.

Dear god, i fucking hate smart-asses like you. I bet OP could use gay porn in those thumbnails too to satisfy you aswell, but maybe images of popular games fit better right?

              It’s not “false advertising”, idiot.

Because OP does not sell those goddamn games and only wanted to show off his UI capabilities. In fact it looks like he doesn’t even fucking sell anything, so what the hell should he advertise for?

Looks like OP’s been passionately working on this project for his own purposes since almost two years, shared it for good will and probably doesn’t give a singular fuck about you using it or not. Just take it or leave it.

              The entitlement of some people…

What entitlement? I am just saying it’s weird that you would add games with DRM in mockup for a project that’s about DRM-free games. Gay porn or any porn for that matter would also not fit in DRM-free game category.

Entitled, because you’re blatantly calling posts about a free product “false advertisement” while OP is not advertising games.

It’s a MOCKUP, guy wont spend time to research the DRM Protection of every fucking game on Steam to provide you accurate thumbnails. Its a software for games and it showcases pictures of GAMES. He doesnt promote the games but his software.

You should definitely google the definition of the word “Mockup” before you continue being a retard in this forum. Have a nice day.

Personally I just use a web directory for my roms Company/Console/Game and search with ctrl and F. I can download it from a browser or wget in the terminal.

For artwork I have the steam ROM manager on deck or the emulator on desktop usually does it eg ppsspp

You either know the exact use case and need somehting like this or you don’t.

A lot of people just want to share their accumulated videogame libraries with their families and friends in some kind of platform.
