“okay but women not wanting to date men is just overreacting” - a sentiment we see even here on fucking Lemmy.

Fifty different men. He also trained these men how to rape their wives.

I can’t imagine wanting/needing to rape my wife. There are so many layers to that I don’t even know where to begin wrapping my brain around it.

I dated a woman who badly wanted me to roleplay raping her. I knew I could never get into it, and if that’s what she wants she should be able to have it I guess, so I broke up with her instead.

I was thinking it really wasn’t that bad on here as you described, but I just read some other comments under this post and I was dead wrong. Disappointing.

EDIT: The other comments seem to have been removed

We’ve dodged a lot of the usual garbage from Reddit over here, but that one definitely stuck around. The only negative comments I’ve received on any of my lemmy accounts are guys furious when you point out men are more violent partners. Like they just cannot admit that as a society the ‘boys will be boys’ mentality was used to allow a lot of awful behaviours like rape. Hell, Revenge of The Nerds has a rape scene in it and people only recently started to speak out against it.

So, sorry for the downvotes, but at least we all know it’s a bunch of insecure men. Maybe they’ll learn, maybe they won’t, but you have allies here in the mean time.

The irony of people downvoting this… Can’t see the forest through the trees. Or more accurately, can’t see further than the tips of their dicks.

Misandry is ok but misogyny isn’t?

        And ya’ll wonder why people think there’s a double-standard…

You’re in a thread about a woman who was raped by over 50 different men, and all you’re concerned with is “WhAt AbOuT tHe MeN!?!?!”.

Crawl out of your own asshole please.

1 in 5 women in the US are raped at some point in their lives. It’s not misandry to avoid men when there’s a 20% chance you’ll be raped. That’s just good sense.

Unhappy with that? Work to create a safer society for women, instead of trolling a post about a woman who was raped hundreds of times by fifty different men.

Yeah, I’ve heard the same thing about why it’s acceptable to be afraid of certain minorities because they “statistically commit more crimes.”

Neither are excuses for bigotry and prejudice.

Personally, I have raped exactly the number of women in my life that I have wanted to. 0.

Just because you are a man, it does not automatically make you untrustworthy, but it is prudent to exercise caution with all people in general—we are unpredictable apes.

People are definitely shit, in general, but we shouldn’t ignore statistics because of that. Men are awful. We’re the worst.

yeah I have since amended to really just people in general. Another thing people need to remember is that unfortunately people tend to be screwed by the people closest to them. We are a sad little species.

We are a normal species. It is not unusual for animals to pick on the weak—just look at how many mammals eat the runt of the litter.

The lesson, I believe, is to take your own protection seriously, and not underestimate the potential of people around you due to familiarity. Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst.
