The mods of the community may only have chosen Undetermined for the allowed languages for simplicity purpose, and some third-party apps don’t let you choose a language when posting so you can’t really turn that one off either without breaking something at the moment.

If third party apps don’t select a language, won’t that just be Undetermined?

I’m not sure how it makes it more simple than just letting people state the language of their post 🤔

Also if each user don’t have the language you’ve posted in their preferences (most only have Undetermined selected) they will not see your post since it will be filtered out.

Perhaps we can have all Languages selected by default and let the user remove them later. That way, you won’t be missing anything you don’t know you are missing.

When I joined Lemmy 7 months ago, everyone’s default language was set to undefined and only undefined including users not logged in. The implication of that meant if users posted using any other language such as English, everyone not logged in or on a default profile would not see those posts. You had to specifically go into the profile settings on a computer and use the control key to select both undefined and English to see posts submitted in both languages.

I have now unselected ALL languages, including “Undetermined”. Please tell me if this helps at all.
