Many had expected Sony to lift the lid on the new PlayStation 5 model with a removable disc drive and to reveal more details about Project Q, the new remote play handheld during Opening Night Live. However there was no news on any Sony hardware at the show. Personally I’m not surprised as Sony won’t want to share the news cycles with the host of other announcements that happened during the show.

Rumours have long pointed to an August reveal for the new PlayStation 5 revision ready for a September release. It is only August 23rd so a PlayStation event is still possible this month.

There’s also the new Special edition Spider-Man 2 PlayStation 5 that is due for release on September 1st. With a new model of PS5 potentially coming between then and the release of Spider-Man 2 on October 20th those that have ordered the £569.99 console might feel a little annoyed if an entirely new system then launches.

The new remote play handled is also still surrounded in mystery with almost nothing known about the device other than it won’t play any content locally and requires tethering to a PS5. But with the PS5 game streaming being tested by select PS Plus Premium users it seems like a forgone conclusion that Project Q will also allow for streaming games without needing a PlayStation 5.
