The first comprehensive assessment of trends in Southern Ocean ecosystems reveals an urgent need to address climate change. The summary for policymakers can guide decision-makers.

They hear us, they just don’t care.

Oh they care.
They see it as another profit opportunity to sell world governments a bunch of vaporware like
Corn Ethanol clean coalcarbon filters, yeah that’s the ticket! Our modern capitalists are just the evolution and conquest of the snake oil con men of old. They don’t care about the damage they do, they’ll be long gone to
the next townto a luxury climate bunker compound, with their suckers in the rear view mirror.Impending catastrophe is just another profit vector to the capitalists.
@AllonzeeLV it’s so insane that their current lives are so bad they think they would enjoy life in a luxury bunker.
Also, a lot of bunkers are in my part of the world and it makes me smile that they really think we would let them live in them if things really got bad.
I think wealth hoarding is a mental illness just like cat hoarding or newspaper hoarding.
It absolutely is, except worse, because it is antisocial hoarding, in that it hurts society, not just themselves.
And it isn’t about quality of life for them. You effectively max that out in the tens of millions. These sociopaths are burning the world to beat eachother’s capital/ego scores, not just in net worth, but in the intentionally wasteful, irrational flexes they purchase and commission, literally like making a mega yacht to tow their sailing mega yacht, or buying some multimillion dollar antique that belongs in a museum.
It’s a high stakes game to them to one up one another, and the havoc it wreaks on the global climate and entire societies isn’t even a consideration to them, as you must have significant net worth for them to consider you a human being worthy of any consideration to begin with. Without that you are disposable livestock, worthy of ridicule but not a second thought.
“SORRY, I CAN’T HEAR YOU OVER ALL THESE QUARTERLY PROFITS!”
[angry cash register noises]
From whom do corporations get their money? From the consumers.
We all know this. We are all powerless to change it. Corporations and governments control whether or not it can be changed. Politicians worldwide are being fed by the pollution industry. The poors voting changes nothing until the corporations and politicians decide to do something about it.
Walkable cities? Great idea. Needs politicians to approve zoning restrictions. Don’t drive cars? Great idea. Needs politicians to build public transportation infrastructure. Electric cars? Great idea. Needs corporations to produce them at an affordable cost. Etc etc etc.
There will never be a day when 10 billion people in the world get on the same page to demand the end of anything. We can’t even get a tenth of that many to agree to stop killing each other over border squabbles.
Re: walkable cities, how tf did some people misconstrue that into not being able to leave your city? It’s madness.
I think it’s just timing, the phrase arose around the time that it was becoming obvious that covid vaccines were perfectly safe, had no 5g chips, did not cause infertility, et cetera.
The various social groups that had coalesced around covid related conspiracies needed something new and un-disprovable to use as an outward manifestation of their internal feelings of persecution, so they just lapped it up.
Well the longer this goes the fewer people will have to get on the same page.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.
However, you can make it thirsty as the conditions degrade
And yet, in the midst of all the worlds troubles, war, politics, economies, and the continual flood of outrage news, and doom scrolling, …nothing will change.
Misanthrope has consumed me, lately.
Get in line, scientists.
We’ve got wars, food shortages, a housing crisis, pandemics, loss of women’s rights, loss of human rights, child trafficking, massive loss of biodiversity in plants and animals, another possible Trump presidency, domestic terrorists, and a handful of rich people who own more than the rest of the population to worry about… 😮💨
@Showroom7561 I guess the silver lining to us putting the scientists at the back of that line is we won’t have to worry about any of these for much longer.
The thing is… every one of these issues could be addressed if people didn’t vote against their own interests.
Politicians don’t care (enough to make a meaningful change) as long as most people still vote for them.
Corporations don’t care as long as most people still buy their stuff.
Most people don’t care as long as their own personal choices won’t solve the problem.
Guess we can try again in another 60 million years or so?
Cool. Thanks.
