I know I can go to /instances to see a list of blocked instances but is there a log or something that lists why an instance was blocked?

For example xrs.cx is on the blocklist. I’ve never even heard of this instance and just picked this one from the list at random. When I go there it just seems like a tiny, run-of-the-mill instance. Not saying I don’t trust lemm.ee admins but I’m just curious.

I love this instance and am definitely not trying to create more work for anyone! I just didn’t know if this already existed or where to look.

I don’t have an answer for you, but I want to say this is something I really appreciate about tenforward.social. The admin, Guinan, is very transparent when it comes to blocking other instances. They provide frequent updates and reasons for any blocks. I’d like to see Lemmy admins take a similar approach.

We don’t have a list of specific reasons at the moment, but generally, instances on our blocklist are there due to some kind of abuse. The same is true for the one you mentioned - have a look at these stats:

It’s an instance with 0 active weekly users, 10 posts and 3 comments, but they have 16200 accounts on their instance. In other words, there’s an extremely high likelihood that the instance is absolutely full of bot accounts, and by defederating, we ensure that these bots can not be activated against lemm.ee in any kind of spam attack or vote manipulation.

Ah I did not see that, makes sense. Thanks for the response, as I said I’m happy to be on lemm.ee! I also understand there are legitimate reasons for blocking or defederating and appreciate that lemm.ee doesn’t do it all the time like other instances.
