Migrating here (or maybe keeping both) from @ArcaneSlime@lemmy.ml
Will put an eternal curse on your enemies for a Cinemageddon invite.
You will in time, there’s plenty on !meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works. the latest I can remember is “the French deserve a thousand Charlie Hebdos” (Charlie Hebdo being a magazine, ironically left-leaning no less, that was shot up with 12 people murdered and 11 injured for publishing a cartoon depicting Muhammed in 2015).
Enough of them have told me by now that I believe them, yes. If you’re unaware you haven’t been paying enough attention or don’t ask hard questions like “what will you do if someone doesn’t want to give their property to your collective willingly?”
Interesting note: The camps started under Obama, certainly continued under trump, and only continued ramping up once Biden took over, not decreasing. Something tells me that Kamala wasn’t going to buck that trend, it seems to be a bipartisan effort.
If you’re thinking 'bout playing ball it don’t matter if they’re black or white, he hee.
RIP your inbox lol. Like others have said though whatever you choose test it out booting off a USB first, fwiw I’d vote try FedoraKDE, but more importantly I’ll add this:
Whatever you choose it will be different and it will be an adjustment in some capacity, and that’s ok! And don’t be scared of the terminal, always keep back ups just in case but you really can’t fuck up tooooo bad unless you’re using sudo and then just be real careful. Watch a few youtube videos on something like “linux terminal basics” or “bash basics” and follow along like you’re taking a class, it’ll really help you get familiar with it. It’s a great thing to know how to use, these days if I know how to do it through the terminal I usually will instead of puttering through a gui honestly.
You don’t see all the furry porn, extra long Kanji posts, B-Movies, witches, hackers, and cultists?
I figure I’d be mostly ok, the email I use for things I’d need to save is stored locally by thunderbird so I could still access those emails, the only problem would be changing the email on a few services.
The hardest part would be replacing that email address. That said, anyone have a rec for a good email service, preferably free, with IMAP/POP3 for use with tbird, that is at least ostensibly private (I know, email is inherently not private, but ykwim), and doesn’t just get shoved in spam on gmail (since that’s what everyone else has)? Riseup would be cool for instance but it’s impossible to get an invite. I’m thinking I may just pay mailbox.org but I’d prefer not to. Unwilling to self host, evidentially it’s easy to fuck your shit up by self hosting email.
Sometimes you can reach out to support and get them to fix it, but not always. Worth a shot, if you can remember the services that need to be changed lol.
He’s calling them rapists because they have the email domain rape.lol, and fascists because they have hitler.rocks. The other side says “They were edgy 4channers 10yr ago when they started.”
My argument is “well you make it so hard to get a riseup acct which is the leftist equivalent, cock.li is the closest many of us could get.”
Fedora KDE here.
Slackware.
Sure, but if they don’t know about it it isn’t influencing their choice. What I’m assuming is they’ll sign up for the one I tell them about and later if they have a reason to switch, like they find out “oh my instance blocks something I want to see” they’ll have learned enough to fix that on their own by virtue of using the thing teaching you about the thing. You seem to be ascribing some permanence to this choice, where there is none, you can simply make a new account, or another account and keep both, or 500 accounts if you’re a weirdo, it literally does not matter, there’s account migration. Furthermore there’s guides if you’re really struggling with the concept that pop up when you google “what is mastodon.” Like sure, my grandma couldn’t turn the computer on so she probably couldn’t figure it out, but it’s really not as hard as people make it out to be.
Tbf, some people want that. I prefer my instance which federates with anyone willing making you choose what to block yourself (aside from the reactionary instances that don’t like that we don’t block their enemy instances by default so they block ours, of course), but not just anyone can join my instance, so I can’t recommend that unless they qualify. If you have a better general instance I can recommend instead of .social I’ll definitely check it out!
Well I’d just tell them if I was recommending it to a friend or making a post like “follow me to mastodon” or whatever, and someone curious enough to find mastodon without a recommendation oughta be able to figure out an instance to join, mastodon.social is the first result when searching “mastodon” so it’ll probably get them just based on that.
Tbf the internet is entirely comprised of like 6 websites if you ask the average Joe, and I’m damn inclined to agree as someone who remembers webrings fondly and misses geocities (it’s like the bell curve meme lol, and btw yes I know about neocities I’m just sleeping on it).
But I agree, if they can email they can mastodon, it’s the same shit.
Evidentially mastodon makes it hard to find people on purpose unless you know their name “to stop harassment” I’m told, except I’m not sure how it does that at all and it just makes it harder to use the damn platform. That’s my one real complaint about mastodon.
Mmhmm
Edit: Oh look, the mods removed the photo evidence of their users calling for violence. Wonder why, anyway it’s over on meanwhileongrad where they can’t do shit about it. Tough break.
