For sure, this is a hard lesson learned for me - it doesn’t matter if you’re doing good work if no one knows about it, so if you want to be rewarded for your work you’ll have to spend less time actually doing it and more time doing marketing for what you’ve done.

The municipality I lived in previously had a really interesting project where they were trying to improve the lifecycle of underground infrastructure.

Instead of digging up the ground, putting in/repairing something/whatever, and then covering it up, they were going to install a permanent ‘infrastructure tunnel’ which could have installations and repairs be done without digging up and covering.

If successful, this kind of seems like what the shipping container did to the shipping industry, an incredible efficiency play.

I’m sure it’s possible to find some good places on the island, but in my opinion, why risk it? Thailand has so much other stuff to offer at way less of a risk.

As promised, some feature requests:

• When replying on the view comment reply from inbox-screen, when submitting response, the screen does not update with the new comment. This would be a nice addition to have!
• When on the view comment from profile-screen, I often find myself wanting to read the parent of the active comment as well as the comment itself. Additionally, it would be nice to also be able to see ‘sibling comments’, other replies to the comment that this was a reply of.
• When making posts under less-than-ideal clients side network conditions/unstable server conditions, the post can sometimes become many times duplicated, potentially by some retrying mechanism. This can be a bit of a mess, and it would be nice if retries were for non-mutating API calls only, or if possible from the Lemmy server’s side, add idempotency so that duplicates get discarded.

Two of my least favourite places I’ve visited have been Cancún and Phuket. Both were minor stops in larger journeys, and I had fairly low expectations, but hot damn these places truly sucked ass. The countries they reside in have some truly great stuff, but you won’t find them in these places.

I think global warming as a term is not great, because it fails at communicating the end result of the overall average temperature increase, which is more chaotic weather on account of the increased energy present in the system. Sometimes this will mean temporary local reductions in temperature, and sometimes it will mean unusually cold years in places. Don’t give people the option to use ‘bUt iT’s cOlDeR tHiS yEAr sO hOw cAn gLoBaL wArMiNg bE rEaL’ as an easy argument.

Climate change is the more accurate term, but I do prefer terms that more accurately communicate the severity of the situation, such as the climate crisis, for example.
