The SI unit scales are chosen to fit together to avoid “respectable” scientific calculations.
To heat one milliliter (1 ml) of water one degree Celsius (1 °C) you need one calorie (1 cal) of energy.
Also the dimensions of one milliliter, is one cubic centimeter (1 cm^3), and that amount of water weighs 1 gram (1 g).
Thus 1 liter of water needs 1 kcal of energy to heat up 1 °C.

3·5 months agoIt’s probably my Swedish upbringing then.
In Swedish, “sun” translates directly to “sol”. And we have different forms, like “solen” -> “the sun”, “solar” -> “suns”, “solarna” -> “the suns” etc.
But we don’t have different forms for proper names.
Isn’t the name of the sun Helios? I thought Sol was more like a title or description… like “mom” or “dad”, but for planets.
Turn them into bovine fodder, then get the oil from the bullshit.

I bought one of these when I lived in Germany. The first time I used it I was so afraid it was going to explode I hid behind the walls. But it quickly became my best friend. 🙂
