I have a distant family member that illegally entered the US with her young child and used a stolen SSN and identity early on to gain employment.

I’d go even further and say “warmly embraced” is an understatement compared to Vance being openly booed by the same convention.

As a US citizen if he ever stepped foot in the US he would be immediately extradited to either the UK or Romania for his outstanding allegations.
