And in most areas, how much share have nuclear and wind? Somewhere around 30-40% combined on average

Argonne assumes the batteries are produced with renewables AND they assume EVs are going to be charged over the day, when most of the renewable energy is “present”. Most BEVs are charged over night, where only Hydro or Geothermal makes power. Meaning, the Co2 footprint grows exponentially, because at night most of the power is made with fossile fuels - a kWh easily can have a rucksack of over 700 gr/kWh of Co2. But hey, what’s a few assumptions here or there in favour of either side, huh? Oh and go talk to China about them producing the batteries “environment friendly”. Just because something uses less Co2 doesn’t mean it’s cleaner. A few ppm more Co2 in the Atmosphere is bad for the Climate, sure, but a few ppm more Mercury in natural habitats, rivers and lakes? Pff, who cares!
A recent study from the Association of German Engineers did factor in that most EVs are charged over night - even after 130k Miles (~ 200k km), a Golf TDI has roughly a 33 Ton Co2 rucksack, where an EV produced with renewables (ID.3) had 36 Tons.
Who said i’m against that? But with that argument, phasing out fossile fuels would solve a lot more issues than a few EVs.
The “break even” point is still somewhere around 150k miles for big batteries (above 75 kWh). And while there are many EVs that have 200k on their first battery, that isn’t necessarily the status quo for most of them. A simple lump of Aluminum or Cast Iron takes a lot less energy to make and can even be produced completely renewable If you factor in synthetic fuels, things look even more grey - especially with algae, there can be huge benefits growing algae in sea water (see the Arctic Algal Boom and the connected pytho plankton growth). BEVs are not “THE” answer, they are one answer to specific questions.
Not only that, the issus (environmental, child labour, etc) with rare earth elements are still not solved and the environmental damages through lithium mining are not something to just sweep under the rug.
Nah. The issue is way more complex than that and begins in proper training for drivers and ends in some proper road worthy inspections of vehicles so that they at least have their lights correctly aligned and aimed.
There are no such issues in Europe. Sure, you get the occasional double blink from matrix led system, but I’d take those systems any day of the week over some who just forgot to turn off their high beams or has their lights aimed incorrectly
That would need proper training - meaning a drivers license that’s worth the plastic it occupies. Which it isn’t. Compared to the EU, a north American driver’s license is like letting a paper plane flyer in an A380 and saying “There’s the light switch, there’s the Autopilot, go fly”.
One should not forget that all these things are not produced and manufactured with zero emissions. EV batteries still need huge amounts of CO2 emissions, photovoltaic cells are far from zero emissions and with the huge amounts of untapped potential to make existing stuff emitt less CO2, there will still be a lot of growth in emissions…
Which is especially sad in Germany, because we ought to have learnt from the mistakes of the past and mastered the art of improving ourselves. The stereotype of a German being overly critical was true for exactly that reason. Apparently the Generation that should have learned it from first hand simply forgot.
They are essential to the survival of the country - we neither have the brith rate, nor the capacity to sustain anything without them. As a country highly dependent on exports, migrants have always been one of the key factors. Be it the Turkish in the 60s and 70s, or anyone else.
I still believe it isn’t that far fetched that they disposed some kind of experiment/test from the labs on the market…
I agree and this resonates - but I’d still choose AMD in a heartbeat, Intel has lost all and every confidence that they do security correctly and it’s only since the 5000 series AMD has…“issues”. We’ve got a relatively big pool of various devices and the 3000 series ones are basically flawless.
However, especially ASUS has no right to cry about AMD, as they don’t seem to be able to fix simple bios errors either.
So… You want to turn off the sun? This has nothing to do with climate change, the sun hasn’t changed intensity in a few 100 years, so sun makes things warm
As a Metalhead, that’s a VERY different gesture 🤘
Would be exceptionally easy for the U.S., the renewable power potential is enormous and making E-Fuels or E-Crude is pretty damn easy. It’s not very efficient, but 0 Co2 is 0 Co2.
But the best part is, it’s actually economically viable. Many parts around the world agreed to a Co2 Tax, making Fossile Fuels increasingly expensive - synthetic fuels, gasses, paraffines all would be exempt. And all those that want to drive 1000 Miles on one tank, do a cannonball run or tow a few tons can still do in whatever way they want…just without Co2. Hell, even the coal rollers can do just that…
Overall however, saving democracy and the constitution should be top priority…
It’s not just a moral duty, it’s a damn duty for your country. Those idiots shouting “We are the true patriots” have lost everything both our countries stood for since we lost the war and you won it. The respect for people, the respect for different cultures, the knowledge that many of the laws our societes stand on are written in blood - hell, the respect to disagree and the ability do have different opinions.
I wish you luck, but that simply isn’t possible with some, they are too far gone.
I have no issue if political views don’t line up, in fact I welcome discussions and I have been wrong many times on some topics. However, the line has to be drawn somewhere, and that somewhere is openly advocating for racism or other views, that simply cannot stand in a society that aligns with modern “western” views. (Too many individual points that we take for granted these days)
He doesn’t need to beat him with the latest rulings…
I already did… There’s some subscription stuff where you can read pretty much all available magazines and papers, it’s been a long time since I’ve been reading that much “news” and reports
