The article is not about which filesystem to use or not, but about the size and contents of the patches submitted in relation to bcachefs. It seems that the submitted changes which should have been just fixes also contain new functionality. Though it is very nice to see how active and enthusiastic the development of bcachefs is, mixing fixes with new functionality is hard to review and dangerous as it can introduce additional issues. Again, while I appreciate Kents work, I understand Linus’ concerns.

I don’t think that the survival of humankind potentially depends on the adoption speed of Wayland. If anything ever breaks, it will affect only a few individuals which can then still change course.

There are a lot of people using hardware from the last decade. I would even dare to assume that most Linux desktop users do, because that’s how you still can get the most out of old hardware.

I have an old tower which I sometimes use for light gaming. It runs X11 because Wayland had some issues on this specific machine. I don’t remember which and don’t really care to investigate unless it becomes necessary. Until then I’m just happy when I have a little time to use it. And that works perfectly for my needs. For now

I don’t think it’s a revolt. Why would they put effort into changing something which works for them with the risk of breaking things? They also wrote “knowingly” which probably means that they won’t have an issue with a switch if their distro manages to make a seamless transition.

Some people just want to get their stuff done, without diving into technical details. And as long as that works for them, they won’t actively change anything.

I don’t hate Windows but I hate being forced use it. I feel that I’m very effective when using Linux and just don’t like when I am being slowed down. I want to use my machines to get things done and don’t like it when operating systems and tools get in my way instead of enabling me to do what I need to do. Hating Windows is pointless because it’s a waste of energy: it is what it is, why expect more?

I understand and agree to your point on cluster munitions. From what I understand from the article it seems that the missiles reached civilian areas either because they deviated from their course or because they were intercepted.

I recommend that you transition instead of switching. That way you have a way to roll back If the distro you are trying out proves not to be what you expected.

These people are insane. They take children because they dare to think for themselves and have an opinion and put them in jail where they are ground broken or criminals or both. Best way to make sure to destroy a country’s future.

Why would it be?

I recently discovered fzf-git.sh and decided that I don’t use fzf enough. For now I am experimenting with using fzf to switch git branches, to see if it integrates with my git workflow. If it proves helpful, then I’ll investigate further options.

It’s nice to meet someone with a bigger pile of shame than mine. How do you pick the next game to play from that pile? And do you still add games to it? :)

May I ask why you switched back to ext4?

I just realized that I used Ubuntu for 20 years. I might be interested in switching to Fedora. How ist your experience so far?

I understand your point. “Program” is a more wider term. Javascript executed in your browser could be a program too. App is just a short term for a standalone program with a GUI, IMO.

It’s just how languages change with time. For example what we simply call “libs” today used to be called by their full name “program libraries”. You don’t often see someone calling them like that anymore. I feel that communication nowadays requires us to constantly check the context in order to avoid misunderstandings. It’s maybe a reason why I don’t write that much online anymore.

I think that the question is primarily about Desktop Apps, since this is the Linux community.
