Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy,
but so far — this is working,
so thank you, maybe?

I just went for the memtest86 and let it do its thing… Should I do some more testing? I really feel like this is not about memory, at least not in a “physically damaged” way.
Okay, tested this just now, disabling swap makes no difference but thanks for a new command for the future!
No, anything proton related works fine, other apps start crashing when something using proton runs in the background or after it was running before.
This problem keeps popping up all the time, thru multiple updates since I finished installing everything.
I will check the logs.
With all the other comments, it becomes pretty obvious that the easiest way to do it, would be being a multi-billionaire in the first place… Wait a second…
See, you are right and that’s exactly why I started with “This might be a little on the side of the main topic”…
This is a fantastic timeline if you want to go into details.
Well then… To stay true to the history, we probably would have to go back to Galaxian from ‘79, which introduced 1-UPs / additional lives, bonus stages and player upgrades, plus simple summary / statistics for hits and misses.
Well, when I was writing that, after midnight I will add, I had this feeling that Mario was doing this thing earlier but for me Mario stands as an icon for the first level design overall as a golden standard for introduction to mechanics and really efficient use of memory for data, and one of the first uses of dynamic music… So you are totally right, Mario brought a lot of things, I’ve just played Crash much more.
This might be a little on the side of the main topic but there was always something cool about Crash Bandicoot 100 Apples > 1 Life, and you could grind more to make some levels more forgiving, like semi-adjustable difficulty level based on your previous approach… And later on — warp zones, you get to choose from a few options so the progression has variation.
Another thing that comes to mind, not sure if a first game to do it, THPS for unlocking movies and later cheat codes, modes and characters for finishing the career. Plus the whole gap marathon for Private Carrera.
Oh, and chanting from Oddword where it had various uses, for saving friends or for changing into enemies, or using special abilities. This definitely was something, because I still remember thinking as a kid, “how cool is that this one ability has so many different uses”.
Black Mirror was supposed to mostly be a cautionary tale, not instructional.
As I am now more in “jump in, jump out” mode, CS2 from time to time, but mostly The Hunter (COTW) with friends and family, mostly as a background to talk and hang out, eventually some solo missions if there is more time or on a rainy day.
Using GUI still ads the mount point and chosen rules to fstab so it doesn’t matter how it got there, if it is in the fstab it will persist.
Still, the location. Everywhere I’ve checked, it just stated to go for /mnt/ and voilà. I guess the main thing is understanding what mounting is, as Windows just shows you a partition and treats it as its own tree, UNIX system treats everything as one giant tree, growing from / “root” directory. Technically, probably, you can mount it almost wherever you want to, but /mnt/ is just the “good / common practice”.
Both of my SSDs are mounted via fstab in /mnt/ with x-gvfs-name so it looks a bit tidier.
But if this is not the way, I need some more education.
My preference is „bare metal” approach, then I really know if everything is working as it should, so I had a separate drive for Linux installation at the beginning and got to my other drives by just mounting them as NTFS.
But, finally I am at the point of no return for some time now, the old Windows drive is not even inside of my PC and the other drives are ext4 already.
For a quick check Live CDs/USBs are totally fine but not fully representative.
I would mostly do more of what I am already doing, spending as much time as possible surrounded by nature, for me personally — woods. Or, riding my bike even more… Learning and reading even more, plus programming level 9000 on the side.
I could visit Iceland and Japan without overthinking it too much…
Oh! If this “needs are met” applies to others too, then I could spend more time with people that are now grinding hard all this working or parenting life. If it doesn’t apply — then I could try to do my best that it would.
For me the amazing part was somehow pacing. Every single time I felt like I am starting to cruise through levels, I was knocked down really hard… and my brain exploded more than a few times.
Stunningly, this created one of the best mechanics for me — “if it was too easy, you probably missed a valuable lesson there”.
Arvi created something special, where every bit of that frustration pays off at least tenfold.
I have this neighbor. He is like 70+ yo, after a stroke and a heart attack, barely talks and walks…
Somehow, this guy still has some slapping sense of humor. How come he pulls it off and most people I briefly checked online history of can’t and more often than not are the same people talking “everyone is just too serious nowadays”, “no-one can get a good joke anymore, huh?” or “why they banned me? Again!”…
I am not saying this about OP, but I am starting to notice a trend.
Plus, yeah, being able to read the room (this in itself can be 10 times harder online), knowing your range and type of humor you operate with can definitely help. And sometimes… sometimes it just doesn’t land at all — best lesson to improve or learn something. On the other hand, not everything and not every occasion or room has to be a comedic scene.
I don’t want to fuck up your depression status or anything like that, but being this honest with yourself sounds sort of cool… in a way… you know?
It sounds like a beginning of something or… a wave.
