I feel like half the planet seems to have a noticeable hard limit to their brain and it angers them to be taught anything beyond 3rd grade math.
There must be some sort of hard limit to how much you can store in your brain, no?
Maybe, but not a relevant one here. We don’t teach math so you can remember every single fact you’re told, we teach it so you can develop mathematical reasoning skills. Reacquiring those facts as needed is simple when using them feels familiar.
Yeah but it turns out that’s actually more than a human can do in a lifetime.
all the scientists, engineers, and mathematicians who make our modern standard of living possible and use parallelograms every day to calculate vectors also had to go to the same schools
The people who paid attention in math class are not having trouble with their taxes
Eh… the really interesting and society destroying part of taxation has nothing to do with math taught in school classes.
But then I highly doubt that that’s what the screenshot is about either.
I like math, but I’m bad at bureaucracy
I hate math and I hate bureaucracy but the FSM has cursed me with being good at both
Yeah you bitched about learning compound interest, too. But now you have a mortgage.
And every time you put together a piece of IKEA furniture you’re using your parallelogram skills.
These kinds of posts are so irritating.
Are people incapable of teaching themselves these things? We live in an age of unparalleled information access. Whining about something you weren’t taught in school, which you probably would not have paid attention to at the time anyway, does not solve the problem, nor does it help anyone, least of all the OOP. GAH.
Math is important.
It’s always a good day for parallelograms. They’re not so fickle as the seasons or tax laws.
