This is similar to the situation I am in, I have just moved out of the religious community, and am finding other communities do in fact exist out there as well. I specifically left due to a local church issue with the queer community, and now am much more involved with pride events and those communities as an ally. It has been very rewarding to be able to help out, and I feel that I get a similar level of community and support (though that of course may be different in your situation).
