I think that mostly happened because the Soviets also nuked and invaded China. In the 2010’s remake they had 100% filmed the movie with China as the main villain and Russia supporting them, but at the last minute they changed to North Korea

Yugoslavia had good relations with the Soviets and the US. Albania is neutral because they had bad relatons with the US, USSR and China.
When Red Dawn came out, the PRC would definitely have supported the US and UK in an open war between the Soviets and the Americans
