Why was my post “Plans 50% For a Limited Time” post (https://lemmy.world/post/7756292) down voted so heavily without comment? It was an official news announcement on (a pretty good deal) from Standard Notes themselves.
I’ve never seen a reaction like this from any other lemmy community.
I don’t know about your original question but $45/year still seems steep for a notes app. What do you like about it?
I’m curious why you’re in this community but need to ask that question? Passively monitoring out of tepid interest? It just popped up in your feed? Is there some confusion about what “Standard Notes” is and people are here for something else? etc.
I mostly like that it’s an encrypted notes app that syncs to my devices. It feels a lot like evernote (which I used once upon a time) with much stronger privacy guarantees. It’s also open source, and while I don’t use this functionality, I like that it’s conceptually trivial to self host.
The app has had its fair share of issues over the years (so as to say, all has not always been “peachy”). However, they seem to be taking things in the right direction with their new “Super Notes” editor type that’s a bit more powerful than their traditional usage of third-party editors embeded into the app. The traditional third-party editors are also nice (e.g., I have a few encrypted, synced, spreadsheets).
Price wise, I’m grandfathered into a 5 year plan (which has a lower price than even this offer IIRC). I’m also fortunate to be in a financial situation where $45/yr isn’t a major factor in my decision making. It’s worth noting they also are willing to work with folks if they have a financial situation where $45/yr is prohibitive: https://standardnotes.com/help/56/what-if-i-can-t-afford-the-price-of-extended
For a small community like this it’s likely it popped up in all. That’s what happened for me.
That also likely explains the downvoted if I just showed in the all feed looking like an ad.

Ahh, lots of non-standard notes users getting fed the post, does explain some things. I hadn’t considered that (I basically only ever browse my subscribed stuff, I hadn’t thought of how the algorithm might handle things in “all” or “local”).
Looks like an ad
I mean… I guess in a sense, but also it’s a deal on the product. I assumed the majority of people here would be interested in knowing about the deal, or making sure others that haven’t signed up/are waiting for a deal know about it.
Thanks for your perspective in any case…
