    Fun fact: people in Brazil used to cook black beans with an iron nail inside the pot to threat anemia and iron deficiency. They removed the nail before eating, in case someone is wondering. Some people might still do it.

    Another fun fact: I remember a research concluding that it’s actually effective.

      I guess it’s similar to cooking in cast iron - it’s effective, just not a be-all-end-all solution.

      There are products available that are meant for exactly this purpose, without being nail-shaped. It emulates the effects of cooking in a cast iron vessel. Seems pretty neat.
