• In almost all cases of assisted suicide advocacy I’ve seen, it’s usually people describing how hard it is for them to deal with a dying family member. I’m sure there are cases otherwise, but I have felt that this push for assisted dying isn’t just a back door attempt to cull the disabled but just a way for people to feel better about not having to care for their chronically ill or dying family members.

In a rational and caring world we would offer the best palliative care possible to all people so that they would never have to feel like cutting life short is necessary to “ease the burden” on others. We would crush the nucleus of hate for those who do not or cannot work so that we wouldn’t drive thousands to suicide just because it’s “economical.”

Almost everyone I’ve personally talked to who has supported assisted suicide wants it for themselves, and often have previously attempted suicide.

Perhaps there’s a bit of bias in who I talk to about it, it doesn’t exactly come up in normal conversation with non-terminal or non-suicidal people.
