    What do people think all the fossils were doing back then? Harnessing energy from magic?

    Sorry, not trying to pass judgement on the tech, it seems very advanced and I am all for more green energy solutions just gestures at the immense amount of fossilized formerly photosynthesizing organisms

      Yes, but that carbon is locked underground. Here it looks like existing carbon is being repurposed from the atmosphere, theoretically not increasing the current atmospheric carbon load.
