Hey all!
I’m looking for recommendations for sharing a Calendar and Contacts.
Any suggestions that aren’t OwnCloud/NextCloud? I already have storage with Syncthing and pictures with Immich.
Thanks for your recommendations!
Definitely Radicale
We have separate calendars (ie we individually sync between our phones and other devices) plus joint calendars that we also sync…
On Android I use davx to sync and Fossify Calendar which allows me to see multiple calendars but only sounds reminders for my personal & joint appointments, not others.
On my laptops I’m currently usong Vivaldi’s built-in calendar and that’s working well for me.
How did you do joint calendars in Radicale?
It’s just another calendar…
So, we have:
Me
Them
Us
House Stuff
(ie bin day reminders)- I use this for Home Assistant
Birthdays
- I don’t recall at the moment, but an app used this for contact’s birthdays…
I then setup DavX to sync to
Me
andUs
on my phone andThem
andUs
on their phone. In Fossify Calendar it’s really easy to show /hide separate calendars as well as selecting the correct calendar when adding / editing events.
I know it’s not everyone’s favourite but I use Nextcloud to manage family calendars and contacts and to sync between Mac, PC, iOS and Android.
for me it’s more that it’s heavier than i really need. no hate, i think it’s cool software.
Same. Just switched due to de-googling.
No personal knowledge of them but a couple would be sabre/dav and radicale:
edit: and for Android phones the DAVx⁵ is a great caldav and carddav client
https://f-droid.org/packages/at.bitfire.davdroid/Using baikal here, on docker. Easy to move to another server when I did early this year
Second Baikal, I’m using docker on nixos through compose2nix and it’s great for syncing both my calendar and my tasks.org todo lists. Crazy easy to setup as well.
I like radicale: https://radicale.org/
I recently switched from radicale to baikal. Both are straight forward no frills caldav / carddav managers. Baikal has a more modern UX. My switch came from choosing to use YunoHost to simplify my home server management
Another for radicale. Been using it for years now. Its great.
I’ve heard numerous recommendations of both sabre and radicale, but ive never used them. I use baikal for both contacts and calendars. It’s simple and it works well.
Same here, Baikal user for about a year, no hiccups so far, works great across my devices.
I use radicale with great success. Highly recommended. It’s simple and barebone, get the job done, doesn’t get into the way.
Is it fancy and has bells and whistles? No. But who cares given how solid and easy it is.
It has no web calendar, you need an additional tool for that.
@nico198x dav server for contacts and calendar so its radicale
Can you elaborate on “sharing”?
Calendar between me and my wife. contacts between various devices, mostly phone.
