The weird thing is the Germans legitimately think that they’re on the right side of history by arresting protestors, banning demonstrations, cancelling artists and supplying weapons to support a genocide.
It’s frustrating to have to hear the German state media being unconditionally pro-Israel. And sad to try to have a reasonable conversation about this with acquaintances and co-workers. But what really triggers my cognitive dissonance is all those pro-Israel leftist-themed stickers spread everywhere.
Yes, we are entirely homogenous over here and any decision ever made by our government represents 100% the popular opinion, similar to how it works in the states
And this increasing deterioration of public opinion is happening despite the fact that a responsibility for Israel is cemented into the german law and favorable opinions being actively promoted by the media and government.
So many things come to mind. There are protests. We’re in transition right now, this is a brand new government. People are afraid that the alternative (!) is literal, outright Nazis and this is the lesser evil. We’ve been protesting shit for some months but right now I think everybody’s tired. No, these are not “good reasons”. I don’t even know, man.
