I really shouldn’t be astonished, but I am 😵.
This is, of course, utter abuse of user data, but what’s even worse is that Google allows this.
#Conversations was taken off Google Play, and forced to remove its contacts linking feature for #privacy reasons, despite the fact that no contact data was ever uploaded to any servers, yet #Citymapper is allowed to share highly sensitive precise location data with third parties for the sake of #profit?!
🤬 Goodbye Citymapper!!
Thankfully we’re not exactly short of #opensource alternatives: I love how #Öffi displays the timetables, but we also have #Transportr and KDE’s #KTrip (which not only works on Android but also on #mobilelinux).

is that Google allows this.
Just wait until you see what data google collects

To add to the list: I just came across @bimba, which doesn’t work on my crappy device*, but their attitude seems solidly in the right place!
* EDIT: it does work, it was probably my own fault.
Hey! In what property do You consider Your device to be crappy, i.e. why doesn’t Bimba work on it?
@teun
Thanks! I wasn’t aware of that one, installing it now.I see it uses #Transitous, just like KTrip, which is nice to see.
@aerion @kde@floss.social @kde@lemmy.kde.social business as useually
@aerion
Google has always grinded an axe for Conversations. Too bad because that’s how he gets funding for it vs fdroid.
@kde@floss.social @kde@lemmy.kde.social@ChemicalTribe
Google does this to a lot of developers, arbitrary decisions, with often little to no recourse.It’s the same story on YouTube, most recently with @geerlingguy and his video on installing LibreElec, a totally legal endeavour that does NOT depend on or promote piracy.
He got it restored in the end, but I doubt he’d have managed that if his channel hadn’t been the size it is.
I wish I could entirely liberate myself from Google, but when it came to choosing between a Pixel phone + GrapheneOS or the hyper ethical and sustainable Fairphone 5, I had no choice but to pick the latter. So, I’m still tied to a 🤬 Google account.
I hope GrapheneOS will consider supporting the Fairphone range of phones at some point, as they offer even longer support than Google does for their Pixels, making it an ideal and stable target platform.
@aerion
At the very least, it should run lineage. The price for a ff5 in the usa is ridiculous.
I’m considering possibly an eink phone too.
@geerlingguy @fairphone @kde@floss.social @kde@lemmy.kde.social@aerion
Not to be that guy, but the fairphone 5 runs the de-googlified /e/ @e_mydata just fine. (Writing from one now).
Thanks to the very open way #FairPhone handles its OEM codes installing it without rooting it was a breeze.

There was a grapheneos post some months ago calling e a scam. Read it for yourself. Was on their website

@aerion @kde@floss.social @kde@lemmy.kde.social The main downside of ktrip is that it doesn’t mention the country of the cities in the search results, it’s particulary annoying for cities that share the same name but are from different countries.
@stemy @aerion @kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social That’s going to be fixed in 25.08, as long as the data is available the location search will show country, region and city below the station name.
@VolkerKrause
Like KDE Itinerary (one of my favourite KDE apps, together with KDE Connect), KTrip keeps getting better with every release.Even though I’ve got both KTrip and Transportr installed, my go to travel planner has been Öffi for quite some time, because of its fabulous timetable display. I need to break my habits and make KTrip my sole app for a while.
