I’m actually surprised it’s taken this long to show up in the numbers, but I am fully aware that I’m in a bit of a bubble.

Most people I know got all their big ticket spending done before January, and then hunkered down into saving money mode so that they’d have some cushion for if and when things go bad. Sure, there have been some outliers, but they aren’t the norm.

Part of the problem is, even a lot of people who still have their good jobs are cutting way back and trying to put money aside because they simply do not know how much longer they’ll have a job. People who once saw themselves as indispensable to their employer and have enjoyed stable careers are no longer so confident in the economy or their job because they’ve seen what’s happened to so many others recently.

Seems like USA is entering a recession now. Well done Americans for electing Trump to ruin everything, when things were looking up with Biden.
Are there still morons stupid enough to claim Republicans are good for the economy?

Sadly, yes. Nothing will actually make them turn on Trump because it’s a fucking cult. They will find a way to blame this on Democrats just like they have blamed and continue to blame the murder of Democratic politicians by a right wing nutjob on Democrats.

It’s not about living in reality, it’s about having power and control over other people. Even if they’re low on the totem pole, as long as there’s someone lower they get to lord over, they’re perfectly happy with the situation.

Funny how they never blame the moon landing on democrats.
Republicans could never have accomplished that, because they are without real ambition or vision. They just want more money NOW!

lol a non-significant percentage of them probably believe the moon landing was faked as part of lib deep state effort by Hillary Clinton and she was emailing about it

(Yes, I understand the impossibility of this, they do not.)

The Stock Market has been completely disconnected from reality for over a decade now, if not longer. Whoever first described it as “a graph of rich people’s feelings” was so on the fucking nose it’s not even funny.

That was always the plan here. Stock up, cut unnecessary spending, stop spending. Who in America wouldn’t be doing this right now? They’re trying to rob everyone blind. Best way to fight it as a mere citizen of a stupid nation is to not participate in their games, and protest, of course.

We can cut consumerism from our lives in the US with minimal effort. All those in the Federal government and billionaire class want from us is our money, they don’t care about our lives, they just want to kill, deport, or destroy us. So, why give them any more money? (Still shop and support local business, don’t cripple your life, don’t live on only ramen noodles, don’t skip medical care, just, shrink that footprint.)

    Live minimal. Live free.

This is exactly why Amazon is getting into pharmaceuticals and healthcare, and why Amazon and Walmart ran the competition out of towns across America, and why they’ve been so hellbent on dismantling the post office. All to slowly but surely trap American consumers into buying from the Monopoly. “Land of the Free” sure doesn’t have a lot of choices left.

Not disagreeing with you, if anything vehemently agreeing with you. Support local. Live minimal. Fuck the corporate giants.

Im Canadian and this anti American movement made me realize how much unnecessary crap we buy from the U.S. I don’t NEED a box of pop tarts or American junk food. I end up putting so much stuff back now that I save myself money and calories.

What about all of the Trump’s billionaire buddies who depend on the general public spending money on stuff? This can’t be good for business, now can it? If this is some sort of clever tactic that results in them getting more money in the end, please tell me how that works.

      https://www.wsj.com/economy/consumers/us-economy-strength-rich-spending-2c34a571

      Feb. 23, 2025

The top 10% of earners account for 49.7% of all spending.

The top 10% of earners—households making about $250,000 a year or more—are splurging on everything from vacations to designer handbags, buoyed by big gains in stocks, real estate and other assets.

They’re just planning to float on the profits from other wealthy people, they don’t actually give a damn about the bottom 90% as long as they can make profits from the top 10%.

Haven’t you noticed more and more businesses cater almost exclusively to the wealthy and that “economy” options for things like phones, computers, and cars have almost completely disappeared or in the case of phones and computers have been so stuffed with adware and bloatware as to be comically unusable?

Oh, so consumers stop consuming, retail companies fire employees to maintain profitability, etc. Few rounds of that and you have even more poor people who can be exploited to maintain the wealth inequality or even widen the gap. Was that the idea?

Needed some stuff but I bought it all used.

Yeah, I would’ve bought it all used if Trump wasn’t our president but that’s beside the point.
