Not meaning to be (too) snide by posting this here, but maybe now Proton could give Linux users a little more love and attention?
Proton Drive for Linux (easily the biggest pain point for Linux Proton users) is on their roadmap: https://proton.me/blog/drive-roadmap-summer-2025
At the same time, we’re continuing to improve the SDK — preparing it for public release and ensuring it provides a solid foundation for the upcoming Linux Drive app, a popular favorite on the community wishlist.
Better late than never! However the wording is a bit vague and it doesn’t explicitly say Drive for Linux will release this summer. I hope it will though.
You can already access it using rclone, not an amazing experience tho
Yeah, I got sick of waiting for Drive and went to Filen, which I’m very happy with and would definitely recommend.
I know it’s just part of the reason, but there’s one more thing we can be thankful for to Microsoft. I hope they keep butchering Windows, and slowly but steadily they make business applications and multiplayer games transition to Linux.
We have two giants to thank: Microsoft for making themselves a public enemy, and Valve/Steam for making Linux more attractive than ever for gamers. In no small part this is thanks to Valve’s Proton (no relation) for running Windows games on Linux.
Finally!
I also feel that the share of users interested in privacy that actually also use Linux is much bigger than 6%
