It uses subversion of expectations as a joke. This is the anti-war original:
Probably because it perpetuates a tired stereotype of the armed forces/first responders beating their families by showing that the daughter hopes he lost a hand so he can’t hit her.
That feels like a bit of a stretch to me for what is a pretty standard anti-meme.
