A nice article. I share the author’s dislike of Antifa techniques and behavior and also see it as not constructive. Counterproductive, but in no way terrorist. However, this designating of Antifa as a terrorist organization allows them to take any form of dissent and claim it is Antifa, in effect turning any form of protest into a crime. Nasty stuff, literal forced radicalization so that any form of opposition can be characterized as crazy, violent and dangerous for the rest of the population, which is almost never actually the case.
100% this is so they can pick and choose who is fair game. I expect something about ICE, which they have built up and spent tons of money on, being driected to go after antifa so its easier to grab the long hairs and queers along with the brown skins.
Yeah, Chris Hedges never fails to produce quality material, and he has the experience to back up what he says.
You can also be sure whoever downvoted my post didn’t read the piece, as it has nothing do with with being or not being Antifa, but is in fact about the Trump fascist regime using it as an excuse to persecute dissenters - as you correctly pointed out.

Being posted on Beehaw, do the downvotes even federate? Because Beehaw has downvoting disabled.
I’m not sure. Also, downvotes don’t really matter on Lemmy / Piefed. And I don’t care if I’m downvoted anyway 🙂
I just find it curious that anybody would downvote a post to an article that warns about the weaponization of a term to suppress dissent. The only explanation I have is, those who downvoted saw the title “We are all antifa” and immediately voted it down because they’re not antifa - completely missing the point of the article because they haven’t read past the title.
This article misses the mark significantly. Trump would make up an enemy wholecloth no matter what (which is basically what “Antifa” is). Look at what is happening with Charlie Kirk. They don’t need a real enemy, they just need an enemy.
I don’t remember Antifa being at any Occupy camps.
