On hand Friday were officers from Broadview, Illinois State police, the Cook County sheriff’s office and the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) who joined ICE agents at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement site, 1930 Beach St., which has become the center of recurring protests.

On Thursday, local and state authorities installed new barriers to… keep the street clear.

Department of Homeland Security Sec. Kristi Noem and Border Patrol Cmdr. Gregory Bovino were on the scene but left in a vehicle about 9:40 a.m.

Noem’s appearance prompted Broadview’s mayor and police chief to visit the facility to again demand that the “illegal” fence be dismantled, a statement from the village said. In the early morning hours of Sept. 23, the fence was erected.

“Since DHS Secretary Kristi Noem appeared this morning, unannounced, at Broadview’s Village Hall asking for a meeting while Mayor Katrina Thompson was out of the building, the mayor returned her visit,” the statement said.

“Mayor Thompson went to the ICE center, accompanied by the Broadview Police Chief Thomas, and officers, to ask for the illegal fence to be dismantled. The mayor was told by agents at the gate the secretary was unavailable to meet,” the statement said.

As of 11 a.m. five demonstrators have been taken into custody by Broadview and state police…

So, if I’m reading this right, the the government of Broadview is mad at ICE for constructing a fence that blocks the sidewalk and forces pedestrians to walk in the street, but also put up even more barriers to corral anti-ICE protesters, and then Broadview and Illinois state troopers arrested a bunch of protesters but didn’t try to arrest any of the ICE goons who assaulted protesters in the middle of all this.

And then there’s this little moment

“Are you proud of yourself?” One protester asked a state trooper. “No, I’m not,” the state trooper responded as he moved two shouting protesters off of the roadway.

Maybe try not being a total fucking disgrace next time, hm?

Sounds like they should focus on the state trooper gestapo, if they’re starting to get demoralized that’s a weak point in the fascist wall that can be broken open

You know what the difference between these two are?

      a) A fascist does fascist things
      b) Someone does fascist things but feels bad about it.

Answer: Absolutely nothing. Reality isn’t affected by what you feel. It’s affected by what you do.

But the one that feels bad is easier to pressure into changing what they do than the other one. There is what is happening now and what can happen later. It is useful to consider both.
