is this a sanctuary open to the public?
Yes. It’s open to tourists. You pay a fee and spend half a day with them. You prepare their food, feed them, then follow them through the forest as they forage, dust bath, water bath, and socialize. A supercool experience.
Sounds awesome. I am planning to visit Angkor Wat next year and will put that definitely on my list.
It’s a sanctuary, as elephants aren’t allowed to work in Cambodia anymore. As far as I know it’s only open to the public for a limited time, and not all of them. That’s what I can remember from what my tour guide told me earlier this year when I was at Angkor Wat. But I didn’t see the elephant sanctuary sadly. Elephants are awesome!
Exiting. In what context did you spend the day with them? As a tourist? Are you working with them? And are they there because they are retired or rescued?
