The YouTube channel “Farm to Taber” has the best series on these bailouts. She describes:
-
how these are “small farms” (in fact multi million dollar operations since consolidation of this industry has been happening for many decades) in name only and have spokesman like in this vid that try to look folksy and cry for bailout money.
-
how most farms are still run by individuals but pretty much lumpenbourgeoisie (she doesn’t use this terminology or any strongly leftist terms unfortunately) who inherited their farms from their fathers and are poorly educated. Not many new people entering the space who aren’t just speculating on the value of the land rather than farming. The farming is like a loss leader so you can be in the running to receive bailouts.
-
how these farmers engaged in collective delusion knowing Trump would bankrupt them but voting for him anyways.
-
also the whole series on ICE and how slave labor basically grows all our food.
Great channel, makes for good binge watching.
To any USian here, farmland is cheap if you don’t mind living in the boonies. You can get a USDA loan for your land and you don’t even have to farm it, I think you can preserve the land as a natural habitat or something and it’d qualify.

“How did this bullet-shaped hole appear in my foot?”
it is what it is
