Many had expected Sony to lift the lid on the new PlayStation 5 model with a removable disc drive and to reveal more details about Project Q, the new remote play handheld during Opening Night Live. However there was no news on any Sony hardware at the show. Personally I’m not surprised as Sony won’t want to share the news cycles with the host of other announcements that happened during the show.
Rumours have long pointed to an August reveal for the new PlayStation 5 revision ready for a September release. It is only August 23rd so a PlayStation event is still possible this month.
There’s also the new Special edition Spider-Man 2 PlayStation 5 that is due for release on September 1st. With a new model of PS5 potentially coming between then and the release of Spider-Man 2 on October 20th those that have ordered the £569.99 console might feel a little annoyed if an entirely new system then launches.
The new remote play handled is also still surrounded in mystery with almost nothing known about the device other than it won’t play any content locally and requires tethering to a PS5. But with the PS5 game streaming being tested by select PS Plus Premium users it seems like a forgone conclusion that Project Q will also allow for streaming games without needing a PlayStation 5.
I wasn’t expecting a new model tonight as well as the switch 2 (there were rumors as well). But what is there more to say about Project Q? It’s just an accessory. It’s able to remote play game, that’s it.

There will be no cloud Stream on Project Q, otherwise they would already told us that. Why hiding such a fakt about a device? It’s just a remote play device for the PS5.
Seriously.
Why would they sell a $150 handheld that can play PS5 games without a $500 PS5?
It makes zero business sense. People would just buy the handheld for exclusives, and PS5 would lose one of the main reasons people buy it.
Especially since there’s no articles saying it might happen, just the two mods of this sub saying it definitely will with nothing to back them up.
Yes i still think it’s only for remote play. This device is just a device for a small niche. It’s not a device for everyone. The price of 150$ is just a conclusion of expensive accecory of playstation. A controller alone cost about 70$, add a screen, a battery and the new housing and there you have your 150$. And when you expect a rather smal amount of people buy this thing, the marge is calculated even higher
Yep, it’s for people who have their PS5 on a living room TV, but other people want to use the TV too.
I have zero idea why people believe it’ll work as a standalone
I’m curious about the price. I use Remote Play a lot via my phone and it works really well.
There’s only two big downsides to it. One being the lack of a controller and anytime you switch out of the app on your phone it severs the connection to the PS5 and you have to reconnect
The Backbone solves the controller problem for $100 USD but can be found on sale for as low as $60.
Maybe they as trying to figure out how much people are willing to pay for a dedicated screen for a niche feature?
But with the PS5 game streaming being tested by select PS Plus Premium users it seems like a forgone conclusion that Project Q will also allow for streaming games without needing a PlayStation 5.
Lol, at first I thought that was a summary for a bad article…
But you apparently just made that up yourself.
It’s a pretty safe bet as who the hell is going to buy one if it’s just a remote play machine?

This article from today doesn’t mention it as well. I wouldn’t say it’s a safe bet if they haven’t confirmed it yet.
Because to an adult 150 isn’t a bad price for this to keep the kid from tying up the living room TV…
If it didn’t need a PS5, it would be a lot more than 150.
You might as well be claiming it’ll clean your room for you and finish up your algebra homework
