My puppy chewed the cord for my fave blanket and I am very upset.

It was a gift, and the original packaging is long gone. The only info I have for it is the big tag on the blanket and what the remote looks like.

Kinda desperate for a replacement cord.

I have no idea how to even go about searching for this stuff. I googled the model listed on the tag of the blanket, but I couldn’t find one that had the right remote for it.

Brand is McJaw but they don’t appear to use the same controller anymore.

If you’re asking this question, you probably don’t want to try rewiring something electric you wrap yourself in as a first project. 😧

Also if the dog chewed it that much, I would be nervous the wiring in the blanket could be compromised as well, so if you replaced the cord, it could still be a hazard.

Their new blankets look to be about $50, which even if you could get a cord would probably be about half that to begin with.

If you get a new one or find someone who can safely check and repair your old one, possibly get some plastic wire wrap that the dog might find less enjoyable to chew, it at least buy you some more time to catch it in the act.

Thank you so much for your help! My puppy has never chewed cords like this before, so I was honestly pretty surprised. I’m just going to get a new one at this point lol.

It was unplugged at the time. I was changing my sheets because the dogs got the ones that were in the bed covered in mud. I turned around and the puppy had drug the blanket across the room and was going to town on it. -_-

Here’s pics of the tag and the remote. Please excuse how grimey the blanket is. My puppy was covered in mud when she went on the rampage against the blanket cord. She’s been such a little shit all damn day lol.

Hi there, I’m a tax auditor with the IRS. I believe you’ve failed to pay the puppy tax.

Can you post a picture of the damaged wires? It’s possible that it could easily be repaired. Is the cable built into the controller or is it separate?

I’d probably just get a new electric blanket and use the old one as a non-electric blanket if you like the look. Put it on top of the new one, get a double-thickness blanket.

No chance of making a clean cut, around the wire and soldering it back together?

That would be my fix. Cut away the broken section(s), peel the individual wire plastic back to expose the metal underneath, twist the broken sections back together and solder them together, one at a time. Use electrical tape or heat shrink tubing on each individual wire and then again over both repaired wires. Should be good as new. Just… don’t burn your house down.

The tag doesn’t mention the company that makes it, at the very least? If you know who made it, you might be able to find replacements on their website.

A picture of the thing the cord plugs into on the blanket would also be helpful. It might just be a common part and not some proprietary thing.

So, is the control thingie actually a remote, or is it wired to the blanket? I can see how that would be a problem when it comes to just repairing the cord. Time for a new blanket I guess.

My own electric blanket is the kind you lie on and the controls are on the cord. I’m never getting a puppy.
