  • one of the most common anti-nuclear arguments these days is basically against conventional water cooled reactors which need a large supply of water (basically a small lake or pond) to provide reliable cooling to the reactors. (this is what those big “smoke stacks” are for) this was made worse recently when europe had a drought and the rivers there were drying up and France had to shut down reactors due to the risk of running out of coolant water

molten salt reactors don’t require water for coolant. the molten salt is the coolant (and fuel!) itself, since these reactors run hotter overall. thus they can be built anywhere as long as you pair them with a chemical plant that can produce additional salt when needed (which is very minimal compared to water needs)

as for the meltdown fears, these reactors can’t create a steam explosion or other issues relating to water cooled reactors. if they risk meltdown, you simply cut external power and the molten salt starts to solidify which ends the reaction on it’s own. water reactors need power (either external or from the reactor) to run pumps to keep them cool. molten salt needs power simply to not shut down.

(i just typed this off the top of my head and if you need to i can find some more detailed sources and info since i may have some things wrong)

  • i read the article and here’s my anecdotal experience to back up the conclusions:

i started using cannabis again after a 10 year break. i was a daily user who didn’t start until my 20s so it didn’t impact my brain development that badly.

so firstly i’m neurodivegent and have always had trouble with outward displays of empathy. using cannabis allows me to engage in conversation fluidly and deeply about more emotional topics as well as work to resolve conflicts. it’s socially lubricating but not in a dis inhibiting way.

also as a trans woman that’s not yet on HRT, it allows me to enter a more feminine headspace. in fact it has always done this and was one of the main reasons i was attracted to it despite not completely enjoying the high when i was younger.

i call it “cognitive transitioning”, basically a taste of what’s to come when i get my hormones right with HRT.

  • he3 maybe for fusion but that would require some long term planning that the west would never do and it’s not concentrated anywhere it’s trapped in crystals mostly on the far side

concentrations of water ice for rocket fuel. there’s also a few primo spots in craters that would allow nearly 24/7 solar power and also have water ice in shadows under the regolith

i could see china planning for space industrialization way down the line and the U.S. haphazardly chasing behind them throwing dumb money and elon at it
