I recently bought a TCL google tv and first thing I did was install smarttube and a different launcher.
That being said the first question in the setup proces was if I wanted the “smart” functions on or just have a basic experience and only use HDMI and cable tv.
But the ads on the home screen with Google tv are really annoying. They are front and centered. I want my apps and inputs where the ad’s are.
Damm, for that price you can buy a ds, 3ds, Wii u and a switch (V1) and have money to spare.
For getting a idea of how your games run check out protondb.com you can add your steam library to easily check your library.
For epic, gog and Amazon prime gaming you got heroic (https://heroicgameslauncher.com/) it also uses proton to play windows games.
GPU drivers are fine. AMD just works for gaming and Nvidia (depending on distro you need to install the drivers, search how to install them and dont install them from the Nvidia website) works fine if you just have a simple setup. The Nvidia drivers are improving alot by the way.
Random mouse, keyboard and other stuff is a hot or miss. Most of the time basic stuff simply works, but maybe there are no drivers/programma to set rgb or macros. (P.s. Try open rgb for rgb stuff)
You can always try with a dual boot. If you not used to Linux and like gaming maybe something like pop os
I’m in the same boat as you and never found anything for Samsung tizen os. Smarttube is android based only and anything streamed to a Chromecast still has ads.
Edit: okay I thought let’s search one’s more. And there is tizentube did not try it yet but seems promising
Edit a file, writing a quick shell script or whatever in the terminal. Nano is great. I don’t see any use in learning vim or emacs. If I need something more I’m going use a gui editor anyway.
Don’t get triggered anyone it’s just my preference
Dude… Core 2 duo is ddr1, ddr2 and ddr3 🦄🦄🦄
Edit: just checked out the core 2 duo e8400. Not only does it support ddr3 and 2, but also ddr1. So added ddr1
There are many 775 socket boards that support ddr3 and core 2 duo/quad supported ddr2 and 3.
There are even motherboard that support both ddr2 and ddr3 like this gigabyte g41m combo
Edit: damn at least some core 2 duo’s support also ddr1. So core duo supports ddr1, 2 and 3
There are almost no lga 775 boards that have ddr1 support and have core 2 duo as supported cpu. But this ASRock motherboard does support the core 2 duo and ddr1 and ddr2
I use ardour as DAW, but only for recording on Linux. It’s also available for macOS and windows. So you can check if it fits your work flow.
I mostly only use Linux, but sometimes you just need a program with out support. In my case it’s sometimes qlab, Linux show player is great(and I have used it for many shows). But it’s not feature compatibel with qlab
Even if something like proxmox or a Debian install with docker is more customizable. It’s a steep learning curve.
But isn’t something like truenas scale a option? I run Emby(as my media Server) and the arr’s on it. All the apps are already in the “software store” including plex. And setup of the arr’s is just the same as normal. All installs are basically automatic.
I easy passthrough my intel gpu in the config page on the webportaal, but don’t how easy it is for Nvidia or amd. Especially with Nvidia due to drivers. But maybe someone here knows?
I work as a theatre tech (light and sound) at a college(theatre arts department). I do however use Linux and made some scripts in Python to control my ligtdesk and sound table. So a bit of IT related work. But also talk with students about the creative part of lights, sound and projection and how they can use it during and after there study in there shows.
I also do some shows for them in the small Theatre in the college and outside the college.
And give them a workshop teaching them the basics and how they can tell to a tech what they want and how they can do somethings themselves.
Not American, but please keep in mind that the national inflation rate is not necessary someone’s personal inflation rate.
For example when inflation was in the 10%+ here my personal rate was almost 30%. My dad for example buys his bread in his local bakery it was €3 for a 1 loaf and didn’t go up. The bread I buy was €1,02 then it went up to €1,96. That’s 80%+ inflation will my dad had zero. This still is the case(luckily not as bad anymore some prices went down again) with the cheapest stuff. For me personally it doesn’t matter if already to expensive tomatoes only went 5% up. What’s matters is the cheapest.
For another example new cars didn’t go up much, but I couldn’t buy a new car anyway. (And how the fuck buys a new car every year?) It’s a meaning less number.
You don’t know if someone’s rent went up %20 or there stable food supply. Personal inflation especially if you are already struggling is a removed.
That’s being said the price hikes are do to higher prices of materieels and most important record profits for companies. You can blame (in the USA) Biden for keeping the system in places which profits on the basic needs of humans, but not necessary the current inflation numbers.
Same with jobs the numbers go’s up you can credit Biden for that, you again can blame him (and his colleagues on both sides(and the not Biden side is much worse)) that you can barely scrap by on a single job.
Simple said personal experience is not numbers.
I still use my PS3, enough great and cheap games and can play my PS1 and 2 games on the big screen with wireless controllers.
Newer games I play on PC anyways.
2025 is going be the year of cheap hardware. A lot of people will just buy new computers/laptop’s.
I’m helping some people already with setting up Linux. But most average users will not set up Linux. It’s just to scary.
I already mentioned pretendo in a comment. But for anyone how wants to play super Mario maker on there Wii u after the shutdown. You can switch networks (you of course need to (soft)mod your Wii u).
In super Mario maker uploading, playing uploaded levels, death point, world record and staring them works. There is still a lot missing. But you can still play.
Some games and features are behind a payed beta(which I hate). But all super Mario maker stuff is free.
Seeing wara wara plaza alive on my Wii u is amazing with random Mii’s and post from miiverse.
I already switched my Wii u over to the pretendo network. Uploading and playing levels already work in super Mario maker.
It’s still far of from a drop in replacement, but miiverse, wara wara plaza and som in game things are working.
I think that in the Android kernel (for your device) there are binary blobs for hardware drivers. Which are not in mainline and most of the times not even available anywhere.
Of course don’t know how pricing is in your area. But here Wii’s are pretty cheap. 30/40 Euro’s with a 1 or 2 Wii motes. I even picked up one for free (hardware and software worked, but needed some cleaning on the outside).
If you are okay with piracy a Wii is really easy to hack. With lots of homebrew. So if you don’t mind having original disc’s it is pretty cheap.
If you want something more powerful there is of course the Wii u. Wich can run Linux with homebrew. But they are more expensive.
However seems you already have other plans now.
You can try launcher manager and then the android tv version.
Or you can use the adb commands your self. You don’t need root just developer mode.
