KittenBiscuits@lemmy.todayto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you deal with the left over fat/oil in your pan?English2·9 hours agoPretty much the same rationale. WWGD. But I used shortening for my base coats only because that’s what I had on hand. Then I basically only cooked bacon, sausage, ham, and pork chops in them to build up the seasoning.
KittenBiscuits@lemmy.todayto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you deal with the left over fat/oil in your pan?English4·10 hours agoI did the same with these pans too. Though I didn’t need an angle grinder. A day or two in a trash bag marinating in oven cleaner, then some steel wool and elbow grease. That’s why I call them my babies, they are antique pans that sadly had gotten rusty and I gave them new life. They were my mom’s, and before her, her great-grandma’s pans (and maybe someone else’s before then but we, the family, have lost track).
I repurposed a pharmacy pill bottle. I’m afraid of dropping a nicer container when I’m depositing new whiskers, sending all the whiskers flying. So, little plastic tube with a lid. Thanks, anxiety. 🙄
KittenBiscuits@lemmy.todayto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you deal with the left over fat/oil in your pan?English5·19 hours agoI respect that you were brave enough to admit on the internet to using a little soap now and again with your cast iron. It took me about a year after I rehabbed mom’s pans to work up the courage to gently swipe a little soap on them now and again. They still get dried in the oven and moisturized with avocado oil. Mah bebes.

(maybe I prefer crockery)
Oh good! I’m very glad!
KittenBiscuits@lemmy.todayOPto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL not all water bottles can survive the dishwasherEnglish10·5 days agoAlso TIL, Tritan was developed by Eastman Chemical, the HQ of which is in a town not far from where I grew up. Old stomping grounds and the like. Good God if the wind was blowing the wrong way, the chemical factory would stink up the entire town. It didn’t help there used to also be a paper pulp Mead plant there too, but Eastman was the biggest stinker.
Poor Campari. Drugged, snipped, and getting yelled at is a very shitty day. Give him extra hugs for me.
I had one of mine do the “who the hell are you?!” stranger danger hissing after the other had a vet visit. It can last hours or days. Mine lasted days. They both go together now whether one doesn’t need to or not.
KittenBiscuits@lemmy.todayOPto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL not all water bottles can survive the dishwasherEnglish2·5 days agoBtw, LOVE your user name! I call my trusty roadies sippy cups too. I have a shoe organizer full hanging on the pantry door. It’s hard to resist an ultra cute sippy cup.
KittenBiscuits@lemmy.todayOPto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL not all water bottles can survive the dishwasherEnglish2·5 days agoThat could be more your detergent than the machine. If you use Dawn Platinum, that stuff removed the screen print ink off my pub glasses. That’s how they can say you don’t have to prerinse with it. Because it’s just dissolving everything indiscriminately. It sure got the dishes squeaky clean, I’ll give it that.
I’ve switched back to basic Palmolive detergent.

KittenBiscuits@lemmy.todayOPto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL not all water bottles can survive the dishwasherEnglish27·5 days agoPerhaps, but I would be too hard on glass bottles while I’m adventuring.
These were free swag though at a volunteer thank you party. I’m only upset that I can no longer covertly signal to the other local volunteers that I’m part of the club. 😄
KittenBiscuits@lemmy.todayOPto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL not all water bottles can survive the dishwasherEnglish9·5 days agoYes, I assumed the heat was the culprit too. They were on the top rack, the cycle was normal not pots & pans, and I never use the dryer feature. My hot water heaters are in the attic though where it’s a million degrees despite an attic fan heroically trying to provide some ventilation. I don’t even need to have the water heaters turned on this time of year. When we first moved here a few years back in June, it took us 4 months to notice that the previous owner had turned the heaters off. I thought we had normal hot water all summer!!
