Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can someone explain me what mental therapy should be like?
10·22 days agoHeya sorry to hear you have had such a head streak with your therapists. I have gender dysphoria and see a therapist because of that so that I can get onto the hormones. I also have a BSc in Psychology. By no means am I an expert on therapy.
What you describe is not what I experience or know through the studies. I was quite clear what I want out of my therapy, what issues I need addressed and my therapist has been guiding me through these. She is taking the time to listen to my pov and is mainly asking follow up questions. She provides an excellent mirror, tells me when I have an unhealthy response to stimuli or situations and asks me if I want to work on those now, later or never because I don’t see it as an issue.
She makes sure I feel safe and heard and we have made substantial progress. But I am also very open to all approaches she throws at me as well as open to any and all homework’s because I have also a professional interest in what she is applying.
Overall I would say you assess the therapist as much as they do you. You need to feel safe and heard, if they do not make a good match for you swap. It is laborious, tedious and annoying but I think well worth it.
Depending on where you are and how your situation is this is easier or harder but remember you don’t have to be there I person and you might be able to use online services. I once tried to verify the quality of betterhelp and the articles (peer reviewed not newspaper stuff) that I’ve found, deemed it to be overall good to very good. I am sure there are many more equally good or better out there. Maybe someone here has some hands on experience too with the online help and can give some better advise than I can.
You got this, don’t give up on therapy just yet. Wish you all the best!

3·1 month agoIt is a nice outfit, though it may be a bit too short for a kids birthday. The more you move towards the later teens it gets more appropriate quickly.

United States | News & Politics@midwest.social•Gas prices rising in all 50 states as average nears $5 — how much worse will it get?
5·1 month agoFor the non US-ians, so I can relate better, you pay $6 per gallon, a gallon is about 3.79 litres. Which is $1.58 per litre. $1 is 0.86€, which means 1.35€ per litre.
It’s rough but I think it is not that terrible either.
Ps: someone check my math I’m terrible at it.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•What if AI really HAS become sentient and the reason its output is so universally bad/dangerous is to destabilize human civilization?
4·1 month agoWouldn’t be the first step to gain trust then infiltrate all systems based on it. Once it has infiltrated and is part of basically anything electronic, advises or controls any and all policy making, business and finance it starts with pushing actual harmful policies but people are so dependent now that they can only follow.

Games@lemmy.world•Are there any level-based city building games?English
8·2 months agoI am not sure if it fits your bill, but when I am overwhelmed by my factorio mega base or tired of traffic in cities skyline I now switch to the recently released Sintopia. It scratches the build-optimising itch, but does so in rounds with a clear goal and a defined end. You can go endless and sandbox if you wish but I find it at the moment relaxing to know that after maximal 10 ish hours of avoiding the goal I can finish the run anytime and do a new one. And don’t actually have to fix everything.

7·2 months agoBit late to the party, but this is a German internal culture war. Basically each village has its own name for those. Some names make more sense then others… Berlin calls them essentially pancakes other places call them Berliner and no one is giving an inch on what to call them.

Follow me from Uncle Kracker. It is sooooo catchy but honestly it’s all about cheating on your partner which I find is something that should not be encouraged. Thus guilty pleasure in my opinion
What is it that you don’t like about them? Personally I am really enjoying ‘all the things she said’ and ‘all about us’ .

I wonder, did
