I’ve been trying to use Ardour for the first time as part of my ongoing process of replacing all the proprietary software in my workflow to open source software. My hope is that Ardour can replace Audition and/or ProTools for me, but as of right now I’ve struggled a lot with how to even use the program. I probably just need to immerse myself in some tutorials haha

Soluna@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Linux@lemmy.ml•How would Linux have been today if locked bootloaders were as common in the 90s as they are now on ARM devices?English4·9 months agoOkay my bad, I think I just misunderstand BSD-3 and read somewhere that Proton is Valve’s proprietary software. In terms of open source software, the only licenses I’m really familiar with are GNU, Apache, and MIT. So I read one thing online saying Proton was proprietary and assumed BSD-3 was a proprietary license without looking into it further.

It is unfortunate that this is the situation, but by using the LGPL license WINE basically permitted this, no?

Soluna@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Technology@lemmy.world•Chinese security officials call for investigation of Intel CPUs for chip failures and security flaws, says chipmaker 'threatens national security'English71·9 months agoLegitimately back when I chose my CPU and I was debating between the Intel i9 14900K and the AMD 7950x3D, my final decision to go with AMD came down to this because at the time their specs seemed almost identical. And based on the more recent news about the 14 series, I absolutely made the right decision! 🇵🇸
I think they researched this and found that literally no creature completely rely on mosquitos, and that if they were wiped out the power vaccum would be replaced by other small flying insects that are within the diets of the creatures that would otherwise eat mosquitoes. So yeah, there really isn’t anything stopping us from wiping them out. I say do it, and just keep some in a lab just in case if fucks stuff up. Or maybe more reasonably just modify them so they can’t suck human blood or pierce human skin, which I’m pretty sure we’re also already capable of.

That said, I run a discord community, and soon one of these days I’m going to make a Matrix version of it and encourage users to try it out. Though very few probably will.
Soluna@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Writing an article on the Fediverse and Lemmy in particular. What are your thoughts?English3·9 months agoThat inability to passively keep “consuming content” is honestly a big strength of Lemmy for me. On Reddit I can sometimes get sucked in for hours on end, and I can get mentally exhausted pretty quickly but just keep scrolling for “the next thing.” The fact that you can’t really do that on Lemmy has made it a much healthier choice for me to spend time here, and I’ve only just started (kinda – it’s complicated).
Interactions here feel so much more personal too, which I like. Even with all the various instances and communities, we’re also all part of the same community. And that can kinda extend to the fediverse as a whole too. What we have in common is that we all want an alternative to the corporate social media landscape that gives more freedom to the users, and enables interchange between platforms to discourage monopolizing walled gardens. It really is fantastic.
I honestly feel bad for them. They almost look like they didn’t want any part in this and were just completely accepting or even embracing death. Who knows if they even really wanted anything to do with this or were just forced by Putin et. al to fight in this sensless war. I understand ofc this is just a part of war, and I am fully in support of Ukraine defending their sovereignty, but damn. This… is hard to watch nonetheless.
