Not sure where the actual numbers came from that they posted, but pedestrian fatalities correlates well with “hood height” of the vehicle. I’m referencing from memory here and would have to go digging for the actual source. The “hood height” could be slightly ambiguous but was taken as the point where the hood basically turns. Think about a 90’s minivan and it’s pretty low, a sedan is also low, a new gmc sierra or whatever is not so low.

I’ve been searching for a good google maps alternative for a while now and I think I’ve found it in mapy.com, the same one you mention! So far I’m liking it and making small contributions here and there with photos of the local storefronts of the shops that I visit

I agree! I’m quite hopeful about this because I think the instability in fossil fuel supply has been quite the wake up call for Europe. Time to go big on renewables. Just to be sure, we’re cutting it close but it helps to see data that shows that we’re headed in the right direction. It’s also crazy how much good will I think the Chinese will create in the global south by helping them to electrify reliably, something that can be done very incrementally with solar instead of the “jumpier” more discretized introduction of a massive power plant every so many years.

Thanks for your thorough answer. I read your post and the first few links. I don’t disagree with what you write, but wouldn’t it be a start to disallow the algorithmic techniques that maximize the amount of time someone uses the app? The first link talks about a U-shaped curve where there’s a “usage sweet spot” for kids’ wellbeing. Don’t things that work to prevent overuse (i.e. ending up on the far end of the U-curve) help? Stuff like no infinite scroll, limiting the amount of non-subscribed content shown in the feed, etc.?

Why’s that? I’m curious to hear the counter-arguments

Smart move, this is great to see! I think it’s pragrmatic on the EU’s part. I think we all know from browsing other platforms with infinite scroll that having to click ‘next’ at the end of the page for the 20th time is enough of a jolt to conclude, “that’s enough of this for now,” and to move on with your day
