Right? Emulators are pretty popular. Piracy is a service problem.

I’ve only visited Montreal twice, but both times everyone was super nice. (My baseline is NYC)
I think some people band wagon jumped onto the Simpsons bit about cheese eating surrender monkeys, and some Republicans followed their crowd during the bush era.
For most people I just read it as a “look at me I’m part of the in-group” sad pandering, like when people would repeat “EPIC BACON” or other low grade memes. They just want to feel like part of the group.
If they released PC ports of Nintendo games I would play a lot of them.
jtrek@startrek.websitetopolitics @lemmy.world•How Trump and his administration have mired the US in multiple crises
13·1 day agoEvery Republican administration makes things worse. Yet there are so many idiots (of various kinds!) that vote for them anyway.
My old boss is from Iran. Like, family still lives there. He voted for trump “to unlock the economy”. He also laughed at ICE kidnapping people. That fucking moron. That cruel sack of shit. The only way it could be more leopards ate his face is if ICE kidnapped him too.
But he’s still chugging along as CEO, living large on his rich father’s money and VC capital.

I’m sure you can imagine such a scenario

Netanyahu has accused Mamdani of supporting Hamas, saying on a recent New York radio show: “I think, secretly, he hates America.”
Lol. Projection, perhaps.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•Return to office propaganda floating around LinkedIn
5·2 days agoAs others have said, many managers are kind of stupid and don’t have good object permanence.
There’s a guy at work who’s very visible but most of what he’s doing is bad. He’s like writing a linter from scratch instead of just using the tools we already have. But he’s visible, and idiot managers that don’t understand how computers work think he’s doing great work. The engineers that actually get shit done competently are quietly whispering about how to block and delay this guy’s nonsense.
At my last job, whenever the manager and one of the guys would both be in the office together, by the end of the day they’d have cooked up some horrible idea. Then the rest of us would struggle to take stop it without losing all our social capital. Maybe if we’d all been in the office that would’ve been easier, but if they knew how to fucking collaborate it also would have been fine.
Maybe that’s your point. There are people who are incompetent at collaboration and communication. They will never get better. Being in office with them is maybe the only way to deal with that.

Making people go into the office is a pay cut and climate crime. The perpetrators should be punished.

4·2 days agoThere was a big thread a while ago where one subset of posters were like “you clearly CAN compare them this is stupid” and another subset was saying “but the point of the idiom is doing so is fruitless”. Not sure what’s so hard to grasp about using an inappropriate metric to judge something.
But then again maybe most people use the idiom in senseless ways.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•The DOJ is using fake "AI" case citations to justify ICE detainment
135·3 days agoI feel like citing AI hallucinations should lead to disbarment or whatever it’s called when you’re not allowed to do legal stuff anymore.

I think there’s a difference between like a landlord and a property management company.
Property management that fixes stuff, cleans up common areas, and such adds value. They do labor that’s useful.
A landlord that just gets money because they legally own the place is not adding value. That’s what most people hate.
You can, of course, have horrible people assigned to manage the property.
