Wasn’t there some drama around Audacity not being FLOSS anymore?

mapu@slrpnk.netto Open Source@lemmy.ml•Is there something like LinkedIn, but without big tech involvement, no data collection, no ads, open source, and preferably decentralized (maybe Fediverse or even P2P)?12·10 days agoXing is at least not owned by MAAM

Nebula is great. Lots of original content, varied catalog and you get to see lots of stuff before it comes out on YouTube (if it even does, as there’s also extended Nebula-only videos)
Community sourced moderation seems sooo in line with Fediverse ideals! And would probably go a long way avoiding mod burnout and avoid cases like lemm.ee’s

mapu@slrpnk.netto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Google will require developer verification for Android apps outside the Play Store10·1 month agoThey’re closing in on alternative ROMs with their fucking shitty device integrity checks, I’m afraid it’s only getting worse. I literally had to switch back to stock Android because none of the e-government apps of the country I live in NOR two out of my three banks work on /e/. Literally impossible to participate in society unless I sell my soul to Google, sadly.
I really hope we’re able to fight back and win the war.
mapu@slrpnk.netto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Got my Minimal Phone today. It's DOA.English2·3 months agoAFAIK FlorisBoard will support gesture typing with it soon (they already support normal typing with it) and it’s FOSS!
mapu@slrpnk.netto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Got my Minimal Phone today. It's DOA.English2·3 months agoSangaline/DGHP and NALMY come to mind. The first tries to optimise for uniqueness of gestures and the second for distance travelled, both meant for hand gliding typing
I like SimplyTranslate from F-Droid and RTranslate from GitHub. The second one also has a really cool live conversation mode where it can, through voice detection and TTS, interpret back and forth between two people.

mapu@slrpnk.netto World News@lemmy.world•US to withdraw from NATO under Republican billEnglish41·3 months agoThat’s the point, figure out a way to stop relying on them. It’d have been better if it weren’t necessary to have a wake-up call like this, but if that’s what it takes to achieve that result, I’m okay with it
mapu@slrpnk.netto World News@lemmy.world•US to withdraw from NATO under Republican billEnglish65·3 months agoI like this! It’s a good thing for the EU to decouple from the US. The EU’s military budget is definitely good enough, just very badly managed. This will push the EU to get its shit together and achieve proper autonomy. Only then it’ll be able to enter international agreements on equal footing with other superpowers and not have it be a serfdom relationship in exchange for protection
I think we can arrive to a best-of-both-worlds solution if we just up the tolerance for when solar noon can be to 12:00±2 h. If China just had +7 instead of +8 as their timezone then 99 % of the population would have solar noon in between 10:30 and 13:30. Same applies to the entire EU (excluding Outermost Regions) if it had +1. The entirety of South America and most of the Caribbean would fit in +4. The US could definitely get away with 3 timezones instead of its current 5 (-6, -8, -10).
