19·1 month agoI can avoid pretty much any tech company by simply not using the product. Docusign, however, is fucking everwhere in modern US life. I’ve had local government agencies advertise a certain wait period etc. which is dependent on using Docusign on their website, otherwise there is a weeks (or months) long delay on them mailing things you have to sign because why would they ever print them in the office? Based on the nature of the company, I am not surprised, but them being onboard will make bureaucracy that everyone has to deal with immensely more annoying if you opt out of using their products.

7·1 month agoThat’s a mandolin. You’re thinking of a tropical evergreen tree native to Asia, widely cultivated for its edible fruit.

1·1 month agoStep one is to not live in or close to a major city or high cost of living area. Step two is to buy an old compact car with good mpg in the $600 range. The insurance will be dead cheap. Then you work, not in a city, but a heavily gentrified suburb. I would average a net (yes, including costs etc.) $30 an hour before I got too ill to do pretty much anything. I have some good days where I can get stuff done, but it takes me way long to do it.

OK. This new “incomprehensible” slang is actually very readable to me. There are Gen X slang/slur combos that make much less sense.
Yeah. I kinda snapped and didn’t intend to be mean. My mental state is not great.
My country doesn’t, and I am seriously getting sick of hearing that the forms of transportation we are systematically forced into being called inferior when we have no other realistic choice. Everything and anything is at a bare minimum 15 miles away from me in the Appalachian foothils. Even the very best cyclist would tire easily on these hills in just a few miles. I mean nothing to you personally, but I am beyond sick of the extremely privileged “fuck cars” mentality. I am going full rant here, but I don’t have another fuck to give. If you are able to walk or bike to a location to do whatever you want you are much more privileged than the average American. And the entire ethos around “lol fuck you just walk or bike” is precisely why we got into a fascist state.
ETA, actually doing the math for my old commute - It would take and additional 12 hours by e-bike. One way.
OK, you your $5,000 e- bike stops 3/4 of the way home and it took you an additional 2 hours.
Good job! Have fun with your 40 mile commute.

121·2 months agoThere is also scale at play. A one way 45 minute commute without traffic is far from u heard of in the US, and many of drive in one or 2 days as much as many other places will in a month in both time and sistsnce due to the reasons that you pointed out.

Yeah, that’s true. It does however even pop up in doctors offices, or anything legally binding. Things where the your appointment will be ruined if you don’t sign digitally.
