it’s far from impossible to de-anonymize swatters, but they won’t go through the effort to do that, let alone prosecute the psychopaths who do this because it’s fun for the cops to cosplay as spec ops, everyone gets some fat overtime checks, and the event can be used for PR propaganda to say ‘we need this militarized platoon in case something actually does happen’

While it is possible DU API munitions have been used in Iran (https://www.cndsalisbury.org.uk/news_items/9279-are-us-warplanes-firing-depleted-uranium-at-iranian-targets) it is certain in my mind that the U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iranian oil facilities and resulting toxic black rain and oil spills (https://apnews.com/article/iran-war-black-rain-pollution-d5f67db4a772775c83dfa3fd303cf25d) will cause far more dire public health damage than any DU usage.
4·1 month agoDepends on the instance and community. I’m biased in what I see more often, but I’d bet on e.g. piefed.social you’ll see the term used more in the former sense rather than the latter, vice versa on e.g. dbzer0, and .world is a pretty mixed bag.
Liberals use the term to refer to anyone left of chuck schumer. Socialists and anarchists use the term to refer to authoritarians who cloak themselves in Marxism, Liberation, and Anti-Imperialism while perpetuating oppression through ethnic cleansing, mass incarceration, and wars of aggression.

14·2 months agoIf this is the first you’re hearing of this I can understand your reaction, but this issue has been discussed for about two weeks and there’s better reporting out there. You don’t have to defend clickbait.
Journalists are supposed to give a shit. Reporting needs to be accurate for people to be well informed, not sensational exploitation of an actual issue to personally profit from clicks.
