That’s a fair criticism and I’m not telling you your opinion on the show is wrong. But Discovery did have its fans, and I think it’s disrespectful to them and especially the cast & crew to say they deserved to get the Enterprise ending treatment, just because you didn’t enjoy the show.

The dislike of Discovery is a totally valid opinion, but this is a poor & disrespectful take. The show did a lot. I enjoyed it, even if it wasn’t my top trek show. Any trek deserves a proper, respectful send-off. You can point at the finale that we got and say that it wasn’t great, but honestly what do you expect with a few extra pages of writing and barely any shooting time? The actors and writers deserved an opportunity to actually end things properly, and instead they were given next to nothing and they did their best to make do.

Stories like Reid Tomasko’s - and others who’ve had Tesla buy back their defective Cybertrucks - highlight how the EV ownership journey can take unexpected turns.

I wish they wouldn’t conflate these dumpsters with EVs as a whole.

I totally agree that I love the variety of options! But I would be very happy if one of the options was that we get filler/bottle episodes for a few weeks per season, but every season is 26 episodes long. They could just spread the budget for 10 episodes across all 26, and make the VFX less… shiny.

(Of course, I don’t actually want actors to be worked to the bone like they were in the 90s…)

A pretty cool episode. Top takeaways:

1. I’m going to miss Captain Ransom. I think it would have been fun to have a season or two of him. Only Discovery has had the balls to hand over the Captain’s chair to another during its main run, and I think that is a good thing.
2. Starbase 80 is now set up as a new DS9-style show. A starbase guarding a dimensional portal. God I hope that happens. I just hope they pull off the ensemble cast that made DS9 such a classic.
3. I hate the tease for Rutherford x Tendi, it’s so mean to tease it in the finale :'( But really it’s so cute.

Rewatching in preparation for the finale, and I keep feeling that the voice of Curzon Dax sounds quite similar to the voice of Odo in DS9. I’m quite aware that Rene Auberjonois passed away not that long ago: may he rest in peace. And I guess he was voiced by Fred Tatasciore (Shaxs), which I can hear too. But I keep hearing Odo which is really nice.

Lol I actually have very few open USB ports, thus why I choose to put the mouse cable in the spare one on my monitor. And I charge my phone on a wireless charger plugged into the wall?

Anyway I’m not telling you you’re wrong for charging your mouse after work or whatever. I’m just saying that designers are wrong if they don’t give consumers the option to use their mouse while charging its battery. That’s just basic.

I mean while we’re sharing anecdotes, I use a wireless Logitech mouse and I plug it in and continue using it when I get a low battery warning. I can’t charge it overnight because I plug it into my monitor’s USB port which powers down when the monitor sleeps.

I have an air compressor which is powered by the 12V DC outlet in a car. They are quite cost effective and easy to buy. I use it all the time to refill my tires. Much better than some odd exhaust pressure solution.

100% monitoring and control doesn’t exist. Your children will find a loophole to access unrestricted internet, it’s what they do.

Similarly, children will play in the street sometimes despite their parents’ best efforts to keep them in. (And yes, I would penalize Ford for building the trucks that have exploded in size and are more likely to kill children, but that’s a separate discussion.)

I get what you’re saying, I just think it’s wrong to say “parental responsibility” and dust off your hands like you solved the problem. A parent cannot exert their influence 24/7, they cannot be protecting their child 24/7. And that means that we need to rely on society to establish safer norms, safer streets, etc, so that there’s a “soft landing” when kids inevitably rebel, or when the parent is in the shower for 15 minutes.

I’m confused, are you saying that it was the 11 year old girl’s personal responsibility to avoid being the victim of sexual abuse? Or are you saying that it was her parents’ responsibility to be monitoring her technology use 24/7?

If it’s harder to find, then fewer children stumble upon it and get preyed upon, which is a good thing.

Yeah, but they require somewhere in the neighborhood of a thousand pounds of batteries to do so. Some of the more egregious ones need multiple thousands, e.g. the electric hummer whose battery alone is heavier than an ICE Honda Civic. Whereas a dozen gallons of gasoline (roughly 72lbs at 6lb/gal) can power that same ICE Civic for a nearly equivalent range, while causing much less wear & tear on the roads, and likely releasing less tire particulates due to the reduced weight. Of course it still releases CO2 and other nasties…

But yeah, the energy density of EVs is still super bad. It’s just “good enough” that we’re making it work.

As I understand it, the big issue is energy density? A tank of gasoline takes you quite far compared to an equivalent tank of hydrogen.

And don’t get me wrong, lithium batteries are super bad at this too, but I do think that has been a limiting factor for H cars.

And then there’s the whole tire dust issue which is definitely a conversation worth having.

It was fine. A total of maybe 8 minutes of interesting content. I enjoyed the segment with Tawny Newsome and Eugene Cordero watching silly clips. And the interviews on the street were cute.

Jerry O’Connell did have a slight “blink twice if you need help” vibe going on, but I’m not sure how much of that is me projecting it onto him given that the strikes are going on (but I assume this content was prepared in advance?). And honestly, I couldn’t do half as well “hosting” a show with no guests in front of a green screen!

And I’m actually a discovery fan! But wow that Paramount Plus narrator was so proud of their achievements, lol

On my first rewatch now and I can say that season one Bashir threw me for a loop because of just how obnoxious he is!! His interactions with any female character, or O’Brien… I guess I forget that the writers had to lay the bedrock of an annoying character in order to cover his later transition into a character we were excited about 🤣

I know reviews are pretty mixed, but I enjoyed listening on and off as I watched Voyager! But I will say that their episodes were pretty long winded for my tastes. In particular, while I understand why they had a section describing all the guest actors, writer, and director, they spent a bit too much time on it for my taste. Especially the actors, where they covered each actor’s first role and usually had a bit of a IMDB review. I personally only really care for the stories about the production of each episode, and also their general reception/opinion of each episode is fun since they’re deeply a part of the trek world.

For me, a briefer version would have been a home run. As is, it’s worth a listen, but you should feel free to skip around.
