It’s just, too much, so much bad and evil happening and I can’t take it, nor can I look away.
I use these platforms to distract from the gnawing constant loneliness I feel that never goes away.
I can’t spend more than 5 minutes without a video playing or checking some kind of media to fill the void.
I’m feeling so suicidal nowadays, but I’m stuck in this existence for the time being.

Start changing your diet here:
yeah this place rocks when you block all political communities and news
So much fucking yes.
No, it doesn’t. This place becomes barely tolerable once you spend a completely unreasonable amount of time and effort curating toxicity out of your feed. I just don’t think there’s fixing it when it’s a foundational problem. It’s tribalism, grandstanding, virtue signaling, groupthink, and outrage. It’s not “let’s explore an idea” but rather “look at everything that’s wrong with the world and how these people are the problem.”
It’s a self-selected group of people loosely tied together by the mutual hatred of an outgroup. That’s the only common thread.
Contrasting the two discussion-based platforms I spend my time on and how one just works and the other is Lemmy, I’ve come to the conclusion that the only way to build a platform like this that the users don’t regret having gone to is by having it paywalled behind a monthly subscription and making indecency a ban-worthy offense - and actually enforcing it. When it’s a free-for-all like this, there’s no incentive to not shit where you eat.
I then feel like I’m missing out on important stuff, but I guess you’re right.
I have Ukraine. Gaza, Trump and Musk blocked, not because I don’t care about them but because I can’t affect them in any way whatsoever aside from feeling shitty at being more personally aware of the atrocities of the world.
Do you feel at all disconnected from what is going on in the world?
Nope, enough still comes through. It’s not like I’m not aware of these things I just don’t want to be bombarded with them.
You can always vote
What makes you think I don’t vote?
The fact that you said you can’t affect them in any way whatsoever aside from feeling shitty at being more personally aware of the atrocities of the world.
Voting is compulsory in my country. The people I’ve voted for have never won any power to affect things. Our (like many countries) media is essentially bought out acting as a PR wing for the wealthy,
Maybe you should vote for someone with a chance of victory.
You can’t always vote, elections usually only occur once or twice a year.
Yes but it’s better to decide who you support well in advance to ensure you aren’t swept by campaigns. It’s the whole reason Trump won in 2024. People chose to believe his campaign instead of doing research on him.
What are you going to do with the important stuff?
Not sure, understand the world around me? Understand why prices are going up or if I should be concerned about war in my area.
If you’re making good use of the information, then it’s good to consume it.
When you realise your view of the world is already narrow because of the window you choose to view it, a few quality of life filters are not going to make that window any smaller, just less covered in shit.
I guess so.
Im not sure humans were designed to know every horrible thing thats is happening everyday, all day, all over the world.
Youre knowing about it cant really change it from happening, can it?
Let yourself rest from the strife
Yeah, I’ll start working on a blocklist here, but it’s just everywhere online, places where it’s shoved down your throat.
No yeah it is everywhere. My partner watched the Knicks basketball game last night… and like, I went to bed so I didnt have to hear the google AI commercial that literally just walked you through its answering of basketball questions. I wanted to vomit so I went to bed.
My favorite cope is walking away. I do wish you could find a way into nature, and to find meaning in nature. Everyone is different obvs. but this has been so helpful for me in grounding me from the horrors of humanity. Id be dead without the trees and wildlife, always there, to ground me.
