Pointing north from the Lloyd District, into the burning sky.
Thanks for seeing my work!
How is Portland doing? I love Portland and visited it a few times in the early 2010s. I hope to get back there some day if US is ever welcoming to international tourists.
Thriving and growing like a weed while the federal government’s trying to pave over us!
City’s still beautiful, people are mostly nice, music and food are still good.
I’ll prolly never leave except on short trips.
Since I’m bad at titling my works, most of them are just called Portland, OR., and I’ve made my peace with that.
Friend recently went and said the homeless situation is REAL bad. Like shooting up right in the streets bad, tent cities etc. Not really the fault of them. Unfortunate becuase it seems fun there (I have not been).
As humanity works our tireless endeavor of heaping wealth on a trillionaire, there are people without homes, and they’re not being shown proper justice. Being denied from society and compassionate interaction, they’ve realized that drugs don’t judge.
We failed as a society.
Very true. I always have the dichotomy of feeling bad for them but also not wanting to be near them for fear of mugging or being stabbed by someone with a mental disorder.
And yet, the only time I’ve been stabbed by a stranger, was a white guy who was wearing a button-down and slacks. It wasn’t drugs or mental illness, just good old transphobia that put me in the hospital back in ‘13. He wasn’t charged cause he wasn’t found, and I couldn’t remember his face.
But yeah, the homeless and mentally ill just mostly want help and to be left alone. The bigots and racists are looking for trouble.
What a POS.
Yeah, its those types that actually cause trouble, but they dont look visually scary.
I’ve lived here since 2022 and while that is an unfortunate reality in some parts of the city it’s typically concentrated near the city center, which is also where tourists tend to go.
Portland covers a lot of area and downtown is just a small part of it. There are plenty of other districts beyond downtown with parks, shopping, restaurants, etc. that embody Portland culture far better than downtown.
I live in the inner-SE side, less than 10 minutes away from downtown and I rarely encounter homeless people and haven’t ever seen open drug use in this part of the city. I don’t generally have any reason to go downtown as all my favorite restaurants/places to go are elsewhere.
I’ve lived in half-a-dozen cities over the years and to me and Portland feels the closest to ideal. Public transit could be better, I miss that about SF. But otherwise I think this city is beautiful and the people are wonderful. The summers here are by far the best I’ve experienced and the food never ceases to amaze me.
Thanks for posting all these pics of Portland! I enjoy the memories of standing in the same spots where you took the picture (for most of them). Good nostalgia, sometimes i miss the place.
@tanisnikana great #picture unfortunately almost all #cities are not #sustainable #ecovillage
I mean I personally hate (big) cities, they stink, have wayyyy too many people crammed in there, you can’t do ANYTHING without it costing money, and its insanely expensive.
Sorry OP, great photo though,
As a bridge enjoyer, please enjoy one of my favorite works:

Wow, I like this even more! Night shots are great
I, uh, am generally powerless to effect this change.
One of the things that photography intends to do, is to artistically capture the world before us. This is the world before me, and this is what I captured, and this is how I framed it so that it would be interesting to the eyes.
I cannot help that I live in a city. This is just my reality.
Also, why all the hashtags? I don’t get it.
The comment is probably coming from Pixelfed or Mastodon
Ah. I post my stuff on Pixelfed and no one writes like that, so it’s prolly a Mastodon thing.
That person is super fucking fun at parties I tell ya, great pic.
I can’t help but wonder if I posted

(from my back catalog, Mt. Hood seen from Mt. Tabor)
I’d be met with “#humans are #destructive and #shouldn’t #be using #manmade #industrial #cameras while #interloping in #nature #youreajerkforpostingthis but great pic”
There’s no pleasing people.
